Leafs set to sign Petri Kontiola

I wonder what the value of the contract is, I would guess that it might be close to 2M based on the interest there was in him and it would have to be enough to convince him to come over.

Plus, he paid around 600k to buy himself out of his KHL contract to come over.

Komarov's butler?

The only time they played on the same team was at the Olympics (maybe at the WC, as well, but, I'm not sure). They probably don't know each other all that well.

Interesting:

@jhiitela:

by purely offensive skills, he's better than any other current Leafs center.

That's from Juha Hiitel?, the NHL correspondent for Finnish sports paper/site Urheilusanomat.

Yeah, I'll take that with a grain of salt.

Player comparison is Phillipe Dupuis.

Oh God.

Just release him now for a 4th round draft pick...

If I may redeem myself with useful info:

@reporterchris

Petri Kontiola's KHL buyout has officially been processed. The Finn has agreed to terms with the #leafs on a $1.1M, one-year deal.

Is this real or just another sick joke?

Oh sorry, that period was misplaced.  1 year, $11M.

Well, at least it's only 1 year deal.  With the impending Kessel buyout, he'll fit in nicely into the top six.

There will be no standard approach by Nonis.  No Ott, no Roy, no Legwand.  Those guys would be too obvious.  We need a mysterious dude we've never heard of from the far reaches of the world.

1 year, $1.1mil. Basically a Raymond-like replacement.

Yeah. A pretty low-risk signing. If he works out, great. If not, down to the Marlies with a small cap hit if he doesn't head back to the KHL.

Somebody do one of those capgeek lineup things and figure out how much cap space and roster spots the Leafs have left.  Do it.
