"good bet" was probably generous but he did score 8 in 70 games the season before. This past season seems like more of the aberration.

1.6% S% compared to 8.9, 5.6 and 8.7 in the 3 previous years.
 
Evolve hockey has him rated in the 4th percentile overall, 8th percentile offensively and 10th percentile defensively last year.

His expected goals was around 5 last year so definitely better than the 1 he put up.  I still don't get the 2 year commitment or the 1.5M.

Hope I'm proven wrong.
 
Easy enough to trade if it doesn't work out here, but still, unless they intend to use him as a shutdown line C (pre-injury Riley Nash), this price is a bit rich.

Reading up on him a little more (Nice Athletic story here for any subs) and they must think he can handle a shutdown 3C role.
