Leafs sign Kadri and Rielly to 6-year contacts

wow players buyin in to what is going on in Leaf land.. May have got more elsewhere.. Good job Shanny and Lou and co.

I think you've hit the mark.  These are really good deals -- Rielly's verges on amazing, cripes, that's the kind of dough Kaberle was making 10 yrs ago -- and the reason is that they see long-term goodness.

Well done all round.

From an earlier thread discussing Rielly's next contract figure which was almost unanimously believed to be closer to Dougie Hamilton's $5.75p/a.

Slightly south of 5 million seems reasonable to me, call it 4.75p/a over the length of the contract.

Close enough.  8)

Guys, Steve Simmons doesn't seem impressed:

Question re Kadri's six year contract: if the Leafs get lucky on Auston Matthews and have a shot at Steven Stamkos, where does Kadri's fit?

Yes, what on earth would we do with all those quality players?

I mean, there's no way any of them can play on the wing. Impossible!

I figured around 10 for both of them but I didn't expect a 6 year term with Kadri, that's really impressive.

Those are excellent numbers. Just excellent. We have the best numbers.

Also love that these were announced on the opening day of the playoffs.

Take that, NHL.

Could be Shanahan throwing a bone to the owners. No Canadian teams to fill the airwaves on playoff day? No problem.

Good numbers, praying that both out perform these contracts. They will definitely be given the opportunity to. I still wonder about Kadri. He still acts like an over entitled brat sometimes. I think it's a combination of him and how he's been managed. Hopefully he will continue to trend in the right direction and he should with the current management team around him. I am very optimistic and am glad they are seeing it through with Kadri. Can you imagine a Toronto Maple Leaf draft pick sticking with the organization and developing into a meaningful hockey player, a very foreign concept to the Leafs, exciting times in Toronto.

Are we sure we didn't want to package these guys for a Stempeniak type player.

Awesome deals all around!
Any word on a no trade clause?

Both limited, probably means they submit a list they will or will not accept a trade to each year.

Kadri's kicks in season 17/18 and Rielly's kicks in season 20/21.

Kadri's deal seems very reasonable. I think in a couple of years Reilly's will look like an absolute bargain. Well done by Lou and Co.  ;D

?Playing in Toronto has been a blessing,? said Rielly. ?To have this new contract, I just feel lucky to be in the place I?m in.

?It?s about commitment. I personally believe this team has the pieces in place to turn into the team we want to to be. I don?t want to go anywhere. I don?t want to be UFA (an unrestricted free agent). It?s about being in Toronto.?

?This is the only place to play for me,? said Kadri. ?If you continue to get better, that?s what?s important.?

Words of a future captain?

Excellent deals, especially with Kadri. At the beginning of the season the projections were probably between $5-6 million, so this is great. I was worried about Lou joining the club, but he's done a great job so far. I would imagine Kadri's deal went something like this:

Lou: We're going to need your client to sign at $4.5 per year.
Agent: Well, we were thin...
Lou: I said $4.5!
Agent: Uh, ok...

How many people read this in Lou's er'ah voice...? nice....

Well, good signings all around!

Puzzled by the fact both are for only 6 years.

Kadri is even more trade worthy now.  He's locked in at a reasonable rate for any team that might be interested.

I guess we'll see if one, or both, will survive their 6 year terms.

Great deals Lou. I guess both of them want to really be here and be part of the turn around that is coming.
Absolutely frikken fantastic.

I'm not sure we can give Lou all the credit.  He certainly seems to have a great management team around him.
