Leafs Sign Shawn Matthias

Another asset that you can flip at the deadline.

So, I have to think that one of Bozak or Holland is out?

Had 17 even-strength goals last season, 2nd on the Canucks. Same amount as Kessel and JVR.

The Leafs bottom 6 this coming season would be amazing if they weren't all playing in the top-6.

Yet another solid tradebait deal.

Slightly unrelated: is Santorelli asking for too much?

Hmm, you're right.  One of those guys I always thought was C but seems even the year before he didn't take all that many.

He's definitely played the position before and still can though, good versatility.

Another nice signing.

JVR- Kadri - Parenteau
Matthias - Bozak - Lupul
Winnik - Arcobello - Panik
Komarov - Spaling - Holland
Frattin - Leivo - Hyman - Bailey

I mean the high end talent certainly isn't there but right now the Leafs at least won't be a team that gets burned all the time when their 3rd and 4th lines are out on the ice.

Someone is going to have to be moved out before the season however.  The Leafs are now sitting with 47 contracts with Marincin and Bernier to sign.  The Leafs are going to have a handful of decent prospects certainly playing in the ECHL this year.

So the newest depth chart from what I can tell:

Left Wing    Centre    Right Wing
JVR
Lupul
Komarov
Winnik
Matthias
Kadri
Bozak
Holland
Spaling
Parenteau
Panik
Arcobello
Frattin

Barring a trade, one of those lefties would be moving over to the other side.

Yeah I wonder if lupul might move to the right on the first line. Get him going so they can try and move him

That would definitely seem like the obvious choice I think. Assuming no trades I'd probably like to see something like...

Winnik-Kadri-Lupul
JVR-Bozak-Paranteau
Matthias-Holland-Panik
Komarov-Spaling-Arcobello

I like these one-year deals.  That shows the seriousness of the rebuild as much as anything.

I'm going to line them up this way:
Deadline Tradebait  Please take him  If the price is right...
Parenteau  Bozak  Kadri
Arcobello  Lupul  van Reimsdyk
Matthias  Frattin  Panik
Spaling    Holland
Winnik    Komarov

Edit: Hat tip to L K for table formatting genius.

I think you have to keep Kadri as a centre.

I said this before about JVR, but I think that the only way Kadri moves is in a trade to bring in a bigger name player who another team can't afford/keep. They're good potential trade chips in those Hamilton/Saad type moves. They won't be flipped for picks.

edit: And now I realize I misunderstood your point just as you misunderstood hermans!

And no one is wrong!
