Leafs trade for Dave Bolland

Nice acquisition. I'll echo 'the get a guy like Gordon' notion, keep shaking the tree for more talent, especially experienced defensive help.

Ideally Horton lines up beside Grabovski there and Kulemin goes to the checking line.

I'd prefer we pick up Lecavalier (obviously not for the same position), and I doubt we can carry both, unless we can move out Grabs.

I like this trade a lot especially if they can resign him for a good rate.  Some interesting comments of TSN radio regarding Horton wanting out of Boston.  Bozak's days could be numbered now .

What were they saying about Horton?
Not to derail the thread, but they were saying Boston were really surprised he wanted to leave and one of the radio guys text someone really close to Thorton and the guy replied that there is something and we will know in a few days.  Wants to be closer to family perhaps?  Would he sign for less money to the Leafs to be closer to family?

Interesting, thanks!

My guess is Joe Colborne is not to happy about this deal.  Bolland will be a good influence on the team with the Stanley Cup pedigree he brings to the Leafs.

More development time with the Marlies.

Colborne is not waiver exempt next season, so he has to stick with the Leafs.

The better teams were able to have 2 centres on the ice in the last minute of the game.  I could see the Leafs having that capability with their lineup.  Now to pick up a ufa or two with additional playoff experience will give the Leafs a long playoff run.

Numbered? I'd say Bozak is as good as gone with this move.  I can't blame him for wanting a payday, and the Leafs can't afford to pay him as a 1C.

Burke did set up the Leafs for an exciting summer. The timing was right. Now the wish list can have Lecavalier, Clarkson, Gordon, Clowe, Ference, or a few others on it. If the Leafs get one or two they get more solid for next season.

Forgot to add Horton to the list.

Not if Leafs buy out Grabbo...

I like Bolland. I like the fact that he's the guy who put the dagger in Boston's heart.  :) I'm concerned however that there's only a year left on his deal.

He sounds pretty excited to be playing at home. It might not take much convincing to get him to re-sign.

If Dave Bolland had been a Maple Leaf two months ago, he?d have been on the ice in those fateful minutes in Game 7 against the Boston Bruins as precisely the kind of player the Leafs lacked in sufficient supply to defend that infamous lead.

As it was, he remained a Chicago Blackhawk to the end of the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs, and as such put the dagger in the heart of the Bruins anyway.

For the Leafs, better late than never, one supposes.

I think this trade means not only is Bozak gone, Liles is too.  They need that salary to go after Clarkson, Ference, etc. after adding Bolland's cap hit.  Liles is just too much like Gardiner and Rielly to keep.

Considering the rumours that Chicago was asking for a "Pominville" type return for Bolland, I'm quite happy the Leafs picked him up for a 2nd and a pair of 4ths. The Leafs needed more depth down the middle, and this helps address that.
