Leafs trade McKegg to Florida for Zach Hyman

Because I really don't want to go out and cut the grass...  :-\
Hyman had a 100+ point season in the OJHL.  Was curious how many other players on Toronto's roster last season had a 100+ point season any time, any where, in their Career Regular Season Statistics.

2001-2002 Lupul 106pts WHL
2006-2007 Bozak 128pts BCHL
2002-2003 Franson 126pts Minor-BC
2008-2009 Kozun 108pts WHL
2009-2010 Kozun 107pts WHL
2006-2007 Holland 119pts Minor-ON
2007-2008 McKegg 126pts Minor ON
---------------------------------
2010-2011 Hyman 102pts OJHL

Makes you wonder where McKegg went wrong.  Maybe I'm just reading too much into stats, but when I start seeing players doing better on P.P. then even strength... my impression is a player that might not deal with the size, toughness as the leagues they're in get tougher.

Based on stats, draft spot and size it is debatable which is the better of the two.  Will be interesting to see which one makes the team next training camp for their respective teams.

McKegg has an uphill battle if he is going to play centre in Florida.

I was a little disappointed in Bailey last year, big shot, big player, I thought he would be a steal but I'm still waiting to see if he has what it takes, Hyman I hope may become more or they both might turn out alright, we shall see. There's nothing new here TO and every NHL team attempt to turn over any bush in the hopes of finding unsigned, undrafted, unknown talent with very few successes.

If the propects work out, we might see Johnson, Loov, Hyman on the score sheet.

Looks like Loov has grown:

Leafs he is 6'1" 187 lbs

Marlies last year he was 6'3" 200 lbs

The Leafs must be listing his draft year size although he was 20 years old at the time.

I read somewhere on the net that TO only brought up the Marlies that they see very little future in because they didn't want to expose the legitimate prospects to the toxic atmosphere that existed on the Leafs, I'm not sure I believe this but my readings suggests that Loov might be the best d prospect outside of Percy on the Marlies. I hope it's right because TO needs to start graduating legitimate NHL prospects.

I believe TO had 4 home grown players on the roster last year, Chicago 14 which helps explain why those 2 teams are where they are.

Wasn't there also pretty strong speculation Hyman was going to sign here anyway? And McKegg was basically just a way of dumping a contract?

Essential reading from Scott Wheeler on Hyman, behind the Athletic's paywall. He analyzes Hyman's play in the Nashville game to see how well he succeeds at the 3 aspects of puck retrieval: get to it, win it, do something with it.

Hyman is a capable skater and his up-tempo forecheck helps offset his lack of high-end speed, but he isn?t able to cleanly get to loose pucks like Kapanen. He?s also an above average retriever in puck battles along the boards, though not an overwhelming presence like Boyle.

Where he struggles, is with the latter ? the escape. Here?s how.
