markhmasters: 3 shutouts in 6 starts v Wild RT @jonasTSN1050: Jonathan Bernier looks to be the starter tonight in Minnesota.

jonasTSN1050: Morgan Rielly practicing with second PP unit this morning. Wonder if he gets back in tonight vs. Wild.

I just hope he's not practicing it with Ranger then.

I've missed the past couple of games, but I had thought that Ranger was coming along nicely previous to these.

Is this not the case now?

That wasn't meant to be a shot at Ranger. I just meant that if Rielly was playing with him it would mean Gardiner is sitting, which would be insane.

I'm just speculating, but if Rielly does play I think it will be as the 7th defenceman. Maybe McLaren sits.

edit: And 10 minutes after I post that Hendrick tweets this:

Paul Hendrick ‏@HennyTweets 9m
Ashton, mclaren and bodie all came off late which might indicate that coach carlyle goes with 7 D tonight. #TMLtalk

Oh good, the Sabres are putting John Scott back in the lineup.

EDIT: I think I just came from the future.  In any event, ignore that.  Saw a John Scott/Leafs tweet, mind exploded.

Factoid: At 11-6 the Leafs would be out of the playoffs if they were in the western conference.

I think that speaks a lot to the West's Domination of the Eastern Conference so far this year...although, the Leafs are one of the few teams that have a winning record against the west at 6-3 (the Lightning is the only other team with a winning record at 6-0).

At this point in the year, there really isn't a reason not to go with 7-Dmen given that Carlyle insists on playing a guy for 2 minutes a night otherwise.  It prevents Phaneuf from playing 27 minutes and then being incapable of skating.  It gives you an option when the team is down so that you can have offense from the back-end and it means you aren't benching Rielly for absolutely no reason.
