Lightning (A1) vs. Bruins (A2)

Remember when Brad Marchand was given a 5-game suspension for an elbow to the head that caused Marcus Johansson to miss 3 months with a concussion and the league still allowed him to represent the Bruins and the NHL at the all-star game in the middle of the suspension? Good times.

I honestly think that an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty would send Cassidy over the edge on it...I think it would do the trick.

I think it would "do the trick" in that he might move on to something else or keep up his usual nonsense. But a real league would actually examine the behaviour here as part of a pattern and would be looking to send a message directly to Marchand.

I'm not disagreeing with this, but I think it starts with the officials on the ice calling the penalty.  If he persists, then suspend him for playoff games.

I'm not defending the guy's actions, I'm just thinking that there's a process in place to deal with this stuff, but step 1 hasn't even happened yet.

I don't think this is on the league yet, I think this is on the officials not policing properly here.

Why? Or, more to the point, what if the official on the ice isn't actually watching to see if Marchand is licking people?

I don't think the league needs to let it happen again and hope an official catches it before taking appropriate action and, you know, discussion of one of their second round series isn't dominated by ruminations on what to do about a player who won't stop licking opponents.

I think you're operating from a position where one player licking another player wouldn't be a suspendable offense if a minor penalty had been called on the ice. I'm saying it would be regardless.

Bill Daly, in an hour, probably: This report is completely untrue.

Is... is he serious? You know, I was sorta rooting for the Bruins because I would have felt better about losing if we at least lost to the best, but screw those guys.

Eh, you're not doing your job as an NHL coach if you're not complaining about calls.

You know what would solve a myriad of NHL issues?

Full cages:
  • completely prevents grievous high sticking injuries
  • renders fighting basically impossible
  • completely lick-proof

Guys a piece if s**t plain and simple. Runs around trying to hurt people, keeps pulling off this same crap and league does nothing. League is a joke. I complained about the Leafs not playing him hard etc. The Komarov kiss for a second time we did nothing. Someone should of knocked his teeth out. I know guys don?t want to be suspended but would be worth it.

Perhaps if Kadri had hit Marchand instead of Wingels...

So, the same idea as the NRA's "good guys with guns stop bad guys"?

SI also pointed out during the series that players like Marchand (and Kadri, if we're honest) cause a stir and thrive off the ensuing chaos. Ignore his trollish antics and he has no power there.

I think it would've been far better for Kadri to keep a cool head, rather than trying to nobly (and single-handedly) spark his team into playing more physically than they're naturally inclined to.

Ha.  We're getting pretty good at softening up other teams for 2rnd exits.

Enjoy your summer Marchand.

So, part of your plan to deal with guys like Marchand is to do exactly what the want you to do? They pull that crap to goad the other team into taking needless penalties, and to distract them from the rest of the game on the ice. They want you to go for payback, because their team is who will inevitably benefit from it the most.
