To be entirely fair the only person who scored a goal last night was Kadri so can we really be all that excited about the forward prospects either?
Yep they still suck... it's a process, which I hope includes D and G at some point. EDM template sucks.

Not sure whose expectations you're referring to, but mine are firmly in check.

Just in general. 30+ points will be an excellent rookie season for most of the kids. 60 points will make them Calder material. I'm just hoping everyone can still enjoy the fun these kids will provide, even if/when they're not putting up massive numbers.

So we should expect 60 points each out of Nylander and Kapanen.

Got it.

When does Lou step in and make Nylander cut his hippy hair?

By Christmas, obviously.

Potvin, I apologize to you for my snarky comment above. I thought about it some more and you are absolutely right. This is a turning point for this team and we should enjoy it for what it is, not what it isn't yet.  I'm sorry I let my ego get the best of me there.

I will say in my own defense that it's going to be hard to break out of ten years worth of almost reflexive negativity. Most of it justified. But as I said upthread in response to Nik  posting how this is millions of times more fun than what we've had to endure recently -- yes, yes it is.

It's hard not to be grumpy as a die hard Leaf fan or a Toronto sports fan in general. We have endured such crap for so long it's hard to see the actual positives. I enjoyed the Jays run even though I was guarded until they locked down a playoff spot, I am trying to enjoy the Raptors but still expect them to loose in the 1st round, and I am enjoying the new direction/approach Leafs management has taken and to actually see some tangible results in the line up last night was a welcome change.

Yes, absolutely. Kapanen, Nylander, and Hyman definitely showed a lot of promise.

That's precisely what I need to keep in mind.... [emoji3]

Really? You don't think that one scoreless game makes them colossal busts? Well, I certainly do.

C'mon, Frogman.

Did anyone catch when Nylander got clipped and went down in the first (I think)?  I was like "oh shit", then the replay showed he got out of the way for the most part and the Lightning player just caught his arm.

It's like I so want them to be safe, and I want them to impress, but it's stressful.  This is what it's like to care about a hockey game for once in a long time.  I enjoyed it.  I can only imagine how stressful and exciting it was for them.

You might be right of course. But even you can admit, Ben Smith wasn't completely terrible on the PK.

Might have a keeper.

The main thing is it is fun, without fun then what are we doing?  If the nerves of hopefully being on the right track, but doubting it, from past exerience is completely normal.  However we are in a new normal now, somehow Leiweke before he became redundant brought in Shanahan and he did have a plan. Could anyone believe the transformation of what we had the week prior to the Clarkson trade and what we have now?
I think we all felt gloom and doom, anchored to the contracts of Clarkson, Phanuef, Kessel, and letting players like McCarther, Kuliman, Grabo go for nothing, not one draft pick. We finally have some genius in our organization to make a dime out of penny.
And now we are stocking the cupboards with the future.
