If I'm a Vancouver fan I am pissed right. Last year you had two great goalies in Schneider and Luongo.

Now, they have neither. Gillis reaching Mike Milbury territory.

Wait for it...Kesler still hasn't been traded yet....

Kesler for Oleg Kvasha and a siberian tiger.

Don't expect he will be. At least, not before the draft. I doubt this signals a rebuild. This is more getting rid of a problem.

Man, things get worse and worse for Canucks fan.

I don't necessarily think he will be either but if anyone could screw that up it will be Gillis...

Yeah. I'm devastated.

<sarcasm meter explodes>

:)

Oh Gillis, what will you do next?

Luongo has a huge contract and he's clearly not the goaltender he once was, but I doubt Vancouver can compete with Lack/Markstrom in net so unless they plan on moving the Sedins/Kesler, it's a weird age gap for their core.

Gillis is a bad GM and he should feel bad.

Well, or they figure that this isn't their year and think there's some decent goaltending that will be available on the UFA market. Honestly, just getting rid of the Luongo contract makes sense for them even if they suck for the rest of the season.

Wow - the return was better than I thought ... figured it would have to be bad contract coming back or a nothing pick.

Individually, the Luongo and Schneider trades are ok.  But taken together - just absolutely mind blowing.

In about 9 months to go from having both goalies, to having neither.  Wow.  What the heck kind of planning is this?

Mike Gillis planning. The Canuck fans deserve this idiot and vice-versa. I'm sure the Sedin's are thrilled at the moves esp considering the Kesler one to come.

In hindsight you wonder if the Sedin's regret not coming to Toronto when Burke wanted them at UFA time.

I'm sure they'd look pretty good with The Phil or JVR or Lupul on their wing.

Oh what might have been...

Well it would have been Sedin-Sedin-Kessel

And we likely wouldn't have either of JVR or Lupul in that case.

I didn't hear this before, but Luongo's agent was on TSN 1050 a couple of days ago and said that trade talks started after Luongo was told he wasn't starting the heritage game and had he started Luongo would probably still be a Canuck.

He gave an interview shortly after the trade.  That's pretty much how it went down.  He got snubbed for the Heritage Classic game.  He had a brief conversation with his agent and his agent said he would try and make a trade happen.  Luongo kept out of the situation for the most part and wasn't convinced anything would happen given the past year+ of Schneider-Luongo issues.  He just wanted out but left it up to his agent and the Canucks.
