And why would Gilllis (reportedly) keep phoning Nonis back to make another offer if he's so difficult to deal with?
 
I liked this line best: "Nonis is petrified of Luongo's contract."  The implication that Nonis is a coward is masterful yellow journalism.

Close second was comparing Luongo's cap hit to the supposed salary demands of Mike Smith.  Bwa-ha-hardee-ha-ha to that.

Side note: the photo of Gillis makes him look he woke up under a bridge.

Despite what the media is saying, I think it would be counter productive for the Leafs to go after Luongo.  Reimer has proven he can play well and give the Leafs a chance at winning close games.  Luongo is getting close to the end of his career and would slow the progress of both Reimer and Scrivens.  The one thing I would like to see with Reimer is for him to cut down on the rebounds.
 
Just throwing it out there, but let's say Vancouver in the highly unlikely scenario uses a compliance buyout on Luongo this summer and thus he becomes an UFA, would you like to see the Leafs go after him then?

Let's say a short-term deal of 3 or 4 years paying him anywhere from $5.5 to $7M.

 
No. Reimer is the guy.

Maybe the Leafs try to upgrade the backup goalie position but our starting goaltender for next year is solidified.

It is hard to predict whether Luongo will be any better than Reimer.  Hence, I would prefer to spend the 5.5-7 million on improving our defense.

Yes, that one was easy but of course I would pay him less than you suggest given the $$$ he would still get paid via the buyout. Given the cap reduction, I believe a lesser amount is in order particularly given the reasonable opportunity for success that this Leaf team now represents (yes, I have been drinking the playoff Kool-Aid)
