I bet he would now. I'd like someone to ask Matthews about this.herman said:Guilt Trip said:He also never tried Matthews on the PK.

And noted player coach Mike Babcock just said "ok Auston, whatever you say Auston".

I could buy that in his 1st or 2nd season but come 3 or 4 I think it would have been nice to see him expand his game a little more.
We did see Matthews step up his defensive game a little this season. We know Tavares can kill penalties. Putting everything that happened in the past aside I just hope at least one of has a role on the PK next season. Kerfoot-Hyman, Matthews/Tavares-Marner, and Engvall-Mikheyev or something like that would nice group of penalty killers.
Bergeron and Marchand kill penalties. I actually don't care if Matthews/JT kill penalties, but I'm tired of watching Hyman lose the draw on the PK and that's where this whole discussion started. MM should help Engvall and Kerfoot in the faceoff circle so that should kick Hyman taking them to the curb.herman said:CarltonTheBear said:herman said:I see no problem with letting the best 5v5 goal scorer in this new era focus on and prioritize even strength and powerplay minutes. Kerfoot-Hyman, Barabanov-Mikheyev, Engvall-Marner; and then you drop Tavares-Matthews-Nylander on the post-PK shift and have a good time. Matthews and Tavares on the PK is a bit of a waste of their finite TOI on a whole season, especially when it's hemmed in their own zone.
