The league is an absolute joke.  Got fined for flying out before midnight.  Oh and Keefe got fined for being mean to the refs.

The fine for the flight is stupid. Like, make some allowances for weather issues and such. No need to be that strictly by the letter of the law that you can?t allow for a 2 hour buffer.

The Keefe fine also feels stupid. The refs were not good last night, but, without knowing what he said, it?s hard to say much more than that.

The refs should be fined for not doing their jobs.

Pfft. Logical and reasonable suggestions like that will never get you a job with this league.

The players also okayed it: i.e. no grievance was filed for this CBA infraction; and I?m pretty certain the league does not have automation tracking the flight times against the specifics of the CBA (as this league still uses pencil and paper for the draft lottery).

So the alternatives for the Leaf players was to spend the Christmas stretch in St Louis or fly the red eye and land dog-tired for the first game back after a handful of days off the ice.

Given the precedent for this was set a few years back with Philly doing the same thing and getting fined as well, I'm going to assume the Leafs knew this was coming and did it anyway.

And from what I've read, had the players approval so it wasn't like management "told" them this is the plan. Good on the Leafs.
