Marlies Talk

Sounds like Eakins is trying to blow smoke up the Admirals' you-know-what. The Marlies have lost 2 games in 3 series. The Admirals haven't even done that. The Marlies have a chance but based on injuries and Norfolk's home ice advantage of course they should be the underdogs.

For the Marlies, Frattin is gone for the season with a serious knee injury, while Kadri and Zigomanis didn?t make the Porter Airlines flight south on Wednesday and may or may not play in the series. Carter Ashton and Marcel Mueller missed the five-game series win over Oklahoma City in the conference final, but may play in Game 1 on Friday against Norfolk.

So Kadri and Zigomanis don't even make the trip.  Seems rather unlikely that these guys are going to get into the series.

Somewhat appropriate with the franchise's luck these days that most of the players who would benefit the most from playing in the final won't be able to.

Most of the young guys are still playing.

Norfolk up 1 zip after one, Marlies have drawn a blank in four PP attempts. The Admirals certainly outplayed them and outshot them and there was a lot of rough stuff.

Admirals win 3-1.  Killed off all 10 of the Marlies power plays.  Marlies coach Eakins wasn't impressed with his team's effort.  Has greater expectations for the next game.

Game #2 is Saturday June 2nd (tonight).

Here's the story:

This will not be easy, but good thing is that Scricvens continues to be a stellar in the goal. I agree with Eakins that some players did not exactly show up, with that rectified, the Admirals are beatable even though the Marlies are missing some key players. WIth Zigo, Frattin and Kadri in the lineup I guess the result ould be different.

At the same time, a record of like 40 of the passed 43 is just nuts.

Marlies Fall to Admirals
It was only the fourth goal the Admirals have given up in their last seven games.

Marlies have been amazing with a 93.9% PK rate. But the Admirals have given up about 25% more PKs while killing them with a slightly better 94.3% kill rate. The Admirals are not just the top offensive club - they're also very good defensively (3rd during the season and 2nd to the Marlies in the playoffs).

I missed a bunch of the game. But the Marlies went on the PP down a goal with a minute and a half left to play. Although the Admirals carried the play much of the game, the scoreboard result was closer and with a little luck, the Marlies could have taken the game to OT. The Marlies D and Scrivens gave them some sort of a chance - even if it was arguably undeserved due to the way the Admirals carried the play.

If the Marlies are going to hang in with these guys, I suspect that's how it will come about - with a steal or two. To their credit, in spite of being outplayed, they at least flirted with doing so last night.

Watched most of the Marlies game last night.

They were pretty terrible, especially given all the Norfolk penalties.

On the main news page, Carter Ashton looks like a ten year old kid that just got in trouble for.......stealing his Dad's porn?

Saw some highlights last night - is D'Amigo okay? He took a pretty blatant charge to the head behind the net. Marlies seem to be decimated by injuries right now.

Abbott is in for Mueller tonight.  After last night's game I was thinking maybe they should replace Orr & Rosehill with Abbott and McKegg to try to boost their offense.

I agree.  They need some toughness against Norfolk, but I was cringing at the thought of both Rosehill and Orr in against the top team in the league.  I hope Eakins comes back with plan B tonight.
