Nashville Predators GM David Poile admits it didn?t feel very good having to make the trade that sent Matt Lombardi to the Toronto Maple Leafs. ?I had no idea if or when Matthew was able to come back,? said Poile one day after Lombardi?s opening-night heroics. It (the trade) was a home run for the Maple Leafs.?

Nice response from Poile though I'm not quite sure what to make of the repercussions of a statement like that, however, that's exactly the kind of media statement I've been waiting for, thanks for posting.

The stark reality of being a GM in a place like Nashville,  you can be a great hockey mind forced to make decisions based on finances.  A luxury Burke in Toronto has that a guy like Poile doesn't.  Poile certainly cannot be faulted for what he was backed into a corner to do, ownership at least cannot hold him accountable.

Lombardi looks like he needs to get in game shape. I think he played his first game on adrenaline, but has been rather weak on the puck since. I think it's just a conditioning thing. Sort of like Lupul was last year before coming to the Leafs. Takes a while to get things going. It will be interesting to see what happens when Connolly gets in.

He hasn't been bad imo. He's shown that he still has quite a lot of speed, but yeah there's definitely room for improvement.
