Matthews or BUST

Says a lot about Matthews' talent when he was out there with less than a minute left in the game with the goalie pulled.  I'm still in awe of him.  For a guy who's never played a single NHL game to be out there with such great talents is inspiring and gives this Leafs fan hope that we truly will see a brighter day soon.

WTF Polak? Really... hitting McDavid from behind with 5 seconds left in the period against a bunch of kids?

McDavid's career is going to be 5 minutes at this rate... PHI collar bone injury on purpose. Steckel Winter Carnival clip on Crosby on purpose. Taking shots at super stars should have dire consequences both from the league and teammates.

I officially hate Polak, I know I am being dramatic but this stuff pisses me off and is destroying our game. Steckel probably cut Crosby's career point total by a third. I do not want to see McDavid subjected to the same BS.

The immediate un-suspendable reaction to this should be a busted stick over Polak's head and 10 games from league. The stick smash is justified by Polak's actions and goes without punishment, 10 games from league to Polak for taking a shot at on of the league's most valued assets.

It was a glancing blow, and more of a shove than a hit, to my eyes. After Matthews lets Polak know what brand of stick he uses, Polak immediately uses his body to brace against any additional falling bodies to protect McDavid. Michalek also sweeps in to initially give Matthews the what-for, but upon realizing who it is, angles off his teammate from stirring anything up.

It's a very touching moment really.

These guys have to be untouchable. He only did it because it was McDavid.

Someone's got to ensure that Matthews wins the scoring race against McDavid and Eichel.

I don't see why they have to be untouchable; they're playing in a contact sport. I really doubt he did it solely because it was McDavid.

I wonder how much of that feeling stems from the view that this is a pretty meaningless tournament - which many fans may believe, but I'm confident in saying that's not an opinion shared by the players.

It stems from everyone going out of their way to take shots at superstars with no repercussion in any form from any where.

Polak barely touches him IMO.

Yeah I heard about this and honestly expected more based on what people were saying.  He didn't exactly run over McDavid here. Not sure what everyone is up in arms about.

Watched Team N.A. last night. Don't really understand why Matthews was not #1 of the game. He set up goal one and goal 2 directly that was cancelled by the refs. He was clearly a power on the ice. We truly have a lot to look forward to.  I am so glad we picked him and not Laine at this point.

Watching this, you can really see why his Corsi score was so dominant. When he has the puck, he holds it so well that seams open up for passes or drives to the net. When he doesn't have the puck, he's always supporting the carrier in the optimal position. They line him up as the winger, but once the play is on, Matthews largely plays the centre role while McDavid plays rover.
