Dreger: Video of Auston Matthews shattering the glass drew 50,000 page views online for TSN within 3-5 hours of being posted. #Leafs 1260

It annoyed so many non Leafs fans too.  There's going to be a lot of hate thrown against our team and fans if this guy pans out to be the stud we hope he is.

I mean I wouldn't have it any other way.

That basically sums it all up

Babs quoted as saying Austone starting as third line centre behind Naz and Bozie, where he goes from there is up to him. I'm thinking Babs will be using him first-line by a quarter-season. Dude's been playing against men for almost 2 years. When that size and skill is glaringly apparent he'll have a meteoric rise on the depth chart.

I think it depends what we mean by #1 or #3 or whatever. I wouldn't be surprised if Matthews has nights where he's #1 or #2 in icetime fairly quickly but I don't expect his wingers to change quickly or for him to get the toughest assignments for some time.

Someone offers you a 120pts from the 3 headed Maple Leaf rookie monster this season, do you take that now and how do you think it would break down?

Marner - 15/25
Nylander - 25/15
Matthews - 10/30

Thoughts?

Yeah, I think the media are a little obsessive about labelling lines.

I suspect he'll get a steady diet of 14/15 minutes a night against most teams second or third pair and third or fourth line.

I'd give him all the special teams as he can handle on top of that.

I mean there is always the chance he goes supernova very early and forms a special line with one of the other skilled guys and then gets almost no sheltering.

Mattews echos the sentiment:

So, his debut is Tonight...

Now that Canada won, will Babs be behind the bench ?

No Matthews tonight actually. And while Babs was at practice he watched from the stands, so expect Hiller to coach again.
