We?ve gotten to the point where I can?t tell if this is satire or not.

The NY Post satirizes itself.

Respect for doing the right (and difficult thing) on basically his Super Bowl day.

Very good article about Ray Ferraro over at Defector today, primarily about how he handles being a member of the media while married to a AGM but it had one quote I think people should see:

https://defector.com/ray-ferraros-been-enjoying-his-need-to-know-marriage/

?I mean, I?ve had two great careers, and I?m eventually looking to do less, not more. I like what I?m doing, don?t get me wrong. I don?t even mind people always complaining that I like the Leafs or hate the Rangers or whatever as a broadcaster, but I couldn?t find a way to care less about who wins. I mean, if the Avalanche likes the way I did a game, it?s not like they?re putting my name on the Stanley Cup. Tell the truth, all I want out of a game is no overtime.?

I guarantee that 90% of the media people who get accused of "bias" feel basically the same way.

WtF is going on with the fan 590? I have no interest in listening to Vancouver sports radio. What?s with this simulcasting bullshit?

Didn't have anyone to fill in while the regular hosts are off?

Not specifically Leaf?s related,  it I see The Athletic is now taking on advertising.

Suppose it was only a matter of time, but disappointing none the less.

Vox Media has chopped nearly every SB Nation sports site (inc PPP and every Canadian hockey team blog)

From Katya
Good morning everyone, I have some news for you that isn't good news. As you may have seen on Twitter, Vox media, the parent company of SBNation has laid off a great many paid employees today.

Also today, they have taken the decision to "stop supporting" most (possibly all, I'm not privy to that) NHL sites. Including this one. That means they aren't paying any of us after the end of February.

This news is new, we don't know exactly what the future may hold, but I have one request to make, if any of you are so considerate that you've been viewing this site without an ad blocker because you want to support our work, please, for your own sake, turn it on!

You may see changes in our coverage of things before the end of February, but I will try my best to keep you all updated on what our future will be.

It's not quite so long and thanks for all the fish, but we might get there.

5 weeks from now, they either go dark or some other outlet/platform scoops some of it up

Meh. I liked Fulemin's articles, but they've become pretty rare, and the rest of the content on PPP feels like its been going downhill.

What a curious statement

It really is.  You hope everything is ok but usually when something like this happens it's because something is not okay.

My take? If he were coming back, they would have said Frankie will be here for awhile.  What they said instead was, Frankie will be here going forward.

Saw it yesterday and was kind of disappointed because I kind of wanted to hear him talk about the big win. He's such a huge fan of the Leafs. Anyway I hope he's ok and getting whatever help is needed and that he'll be back at some point. I enjoy listening to the show.

The Athletic, the sports news outlet owned by The New York Times, laid off nearly 4 percent of its newsroom on Monday.

David Perpich, the publisher of The Athletic, and Steven Ginsberg, its executive editor, announced ?a significant reorganization? of the newsroom in a note to the staff. They said the publication was shifting away from having one beat reporter per sports team to broader coverage ?telling the most compelling stories for fans across the teams in a given league, drawing on both local and national reporting expertise.?

Nearly 20 people will be laid off as part of the reorganization, while more than 20 reporters will be moved to new assignments, they said.

I was very much 50/50 on renewing my annual subscription a few weeks back, but they gave me a less than half price offer so I ended up doing so.

Of the teams I follow, the New Orleans Saints haven?t had a writer since early last season.

The Leafs have plenty of coverage but it?s almost gone too much quantity over quality. I always liked Mirtle and he barely seems to write now.

The main Newcastle United writer was very good, but he?s gone off elsewhere and the new guy isn?t as great (yet, anyway) which is most annoying cos it was probably that coverage that just about tipped me into renewing.

But, if they?re relying on massive reductions to encourage subscribers to return it?s no real surprise I guess that they?re having to lay people off?
