Media...

I know it would never ever happen ,but....  if all media just stoped reporting on the lockout, do you think it would have an efect. I think the NHL to some point feeds on media hype.

Yes, it probably would have an effect.

So far, cba negotiations have largely been a p.r. battle. Maybe in a hypothetical world where TSN, Sportsnet, countless bloggers, twitter accounts, etc. didn't feel compelled to give hourly updates on non-progress, there would be no p.r. battle. We would hear little or nothing about negotiations. We'd be spared the wild speculation of a 2-year lockout that's starting to happen. In Canada though, hockey media operates 24/7/365. They have to talk and write about something.

I'd say it's best to forget all that right now, anyway. The NHL season doesn't start on Sept.15. If there's zero progress a month from now, that's another matter.

Media won't stop covering the lockout as long as their are readers/viewers who want an update on the talks.

So, in essence, it's our fault for paying attention.

NHL Players are going to Europe, while the NHL is hinting at hiring scab players.

All gamesmanship.

Media certainly does have the power to create interest in something where there would otherwise be none.

Ad agencies know this well.

They should have made a Sportsnet/ Eklund pizza party out of it. Although, you'd probably get sick of pizza...

They could switch at some point to throwing beach balls at Kypreos' head... I would watch that for a few hours.

I think you greatly overestimate the level of media coverage outside of Canada.

Interesting article from our buddy Berger about the always arrogant Glen Healy and the CBC cast of characters who broadcast the Leafs.

He's probably dead-on about most of that stuff, but his "truth" is still a subjective opinion and, at least some of the time, he's clearly off the mark. It is what it is.

Man, I sure hope Healy at least bought Howard dinner beforehand.

Healy actually isn't that bad. He praised Reimer on Saturday and he usually mentions good things about Kadri and hyped up Frattin quite a bit. Healy's approach is his problem. He's purposely brash with his comments, like he's TRYING to rile us up because its fun for him. He's very unprofessional.

Hughson and Simpson are my beef. Very unbalanced approach to their broadcasts.

Kind of funny seeing as Berger likes to hide behind his writing while he hurls insults at people.

I don't know about other people, but the announcers do bother me.  I don't need someone with 20/20 hindsight telling how smart they are.  Last night I turned on the T.V., Leafs up 1-0, and I heard the announcer's voice...  I turned the T.V. off in my hotel room and went to bed.

Bring back Bob Cole.  Couldn't stand Hughson calling the Vancouver games and can't stand him now.  Just deadpan dry and monotone.  I would have the audio from the radio on for every broadcast if the two (video and audio) where in sync.  As for Healy, he is OK as he does tell it like it is.

Yes, I never got the love for Hughson.  I mean he calls the game accurately but has never had the voice that I look for in a top play by play guy.  I do like Cole and loved him in his day, he makes a lot of mistakes now though. I can live with them because I love his voice and have listened for so long.  Healy is nothing short of atrocious.

I literally watched MTL-OTT last Saturday just to hear Bob Cole call a game. I NEVER watch non-Leafs regular season NHL games but this one had me just because of Cole. Would be great if CBC put him back on Leafs games but it won't happen. Hughson has it in his contract that he is to be CBC's lead announcer. All we can hope for is Cole calling a Leafs playoff series :D

I think Cole is horrible now.  He's constantly screwing up the calls and not knowing what's going on.  I heard him call a game and this is literally what he said:

"this team can't get anything going they only have 2 shots on net.  check that they had 2 shots now they have 16 shots so they've taken a few since that slow start. No wait they have 9 shots I think I've got it now"
