Men's Olympic hockey

I'm pretty sure you'd be part of the minority in the country on that.

Yeah I'm sure that's true. But it's not like I'm saying the Team Phil game should be played over the Canada game, just that it should be played on one of the two main channels showing Olympic events right now. And really, even at 1-1 this game will still almost certainly be a win for Canada. So if we pull ahead big time I'm sure people would appreciate being able to change channels and watch a hockey game that isn't decided.

edit: Although at 3-1 TP I guess that game might not be close either.

Remind me why Bouwmeester is on the team?

Hard for him to cover a guy who came on the ice from the bench 10 feet behind him.

Aren't the D supposed to be aware of their surroundings and check for stuff like that?

I'm not blaming him even really, that was unfair, just saw him after that and it reminded me that I don't get the love for him.

I wonder if having that extra two skaters on the bench actually hurts a team like Canada. The 13th forward is getting just over 10 minute of ice-time a game. Crosby is averaging 15:43. I think I'd rather see that 10 minutes given mostly to Crosby and say Getzlaf and just not have a 13th guy.

Same goes on the defence. Quite frankly I don't know why you wouldn't just be able to run 5 D with Weber-Keith-Doughty-Pietrangelo-Subban. Or maybe give the top 4 all 22+ minutes and give Subban and whoever else the rest.

Awareness and ability to do something about it are often very different things. Bouwmeester is one of the better skating defencemen Canada has. If he couldn't catch the Latvian player there, I'm not sure any of the other options would have been able to either.

A little further to my point, Hamhuis played 2:49 in the 1st period. Why even put him on the ice? You have 4 guys who will likely consistently be in the Norris trophy mix for the next 10 years on the bench. Not to mention the reigning Norris winner in the press box but that's not even the fight I'm picking here. There's just no reason to play a 7th defenceman.

With the other D Canada has, I'd rather have Subban.  Although rotate Hamuis/Bouwmeester with Subban, either one really.

I think the best way to do things would probably to go with 12 forwards and 8 defencemen. I think you're right in that guys like Crosby need more ice time, but, I think having things spread more evenly among the defence could be helpful.

I'm not necessarily arguing that Bouwmeester should be in over Subban - though, I honestly don't believe having one over the other as one of the 5-7 defencemen is going to be much of a difference.

It's crazy that Ozolinsh is still playing hockey. When I first heard he was going to be part of the opening ceremonies I assumed that he was Latvia's coach or GM.

I was stunned first to hear that Teemu Selanne played in the 1992 Albertville Olympics, and then that his Finnish teammate Mikael Granlund was born days after those same Olympics.
