Men's Olympic hockey

Sweden is up 2-0 over the Czech Republic after 1.

Karlsson and Berglund with the goals.

Tomas Kaberle second on Czechs in ice time with 7:27. Ladislav Smid and Ales Hemsky didn't get a shift.

Kaberle still looks pretty good.

He was pretty bad IMO, lost  puck on several occasions in both defensive as well as offensive zone. Czech were totally flat in the first half of the game, in the second they were better team. Too little, too late.

I didn't watch the entire game, but saw him split the Swedish D for a chance and make a couple other nice plays, and his skating didn't look bad.

Smid really sat on the bench for the whole game? And Hemsky only played in the 3rd? Did the coach just forget he had those extra players or what? And benching Hanzal?

I had both games on the TV at the same time, and while I was concentrating on the Sweden v Czech Rep (who was the starting goalie? He was bad), the Swiss game v Latvia was very exciting with a Swiss goal winning it 1-0 just 7.9 seconds from the end of the game

Kessel and JVR both have assists on USA's opening goal.  Kessel made a nice drop pass to Carlson for a one-timer.  Kessel's looked pretty dangerous, had a really good chance early and has set up a couple others.

Kessel playing against Chara again. I think Kevin Dupont a pretty crap hockey writer, but this was pretty funny:

Years from now, Kessel, in rocking chair, will mumble, "Chara followed me around the world...Chara followed me around.."

Rush goal. Kessel's definitely been great. JVR isn't playing in front of the net on the powerplay though as Backes is there. He's more in Bozak's spot in the middle of the ice.

Did anybody see or hear about Kevin Paul Dupont's controversial tweet from the weekend?  "Remember, this is the country that sent us the Tsarnaevs. Never forget. Never."  He (rightly) got a lot of negative feedback for it (you know, wrong country, two random nutjobs, etc.), but the tweet stood for a day or two, although I'm pretty sure it's been deleted now.

Anyone know the rule differences we have for the olympics?  For instance, I see there's no trapezoid area.  Anything else?  Do we have the over-the-boards delay of game?

James Mirtle has you covered: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/olympics/the-many-quirky-differences-between-nhl-and-olympic-hockey/article16831685/

Doesn't mention the delay of game rule, so I'm guessing they have it too.

Kessel and JVR create another goal, this time with Backes (#42). Did Chara forget that he could hit people on that play? Or use his size in any sort of way?

I feel safe in saying Boston hockey reporters are the WORST.

Pretty surprised at how much game Slovenia has right now. Wow.

Haven't seen much of the US game, but wow. They look good.

I'm surprised at the USA score line, didn't think Slovakia would be so poor.

The goals seem to be strung very tightly, pucks are flying out quicker than they go in. I reckon we could see some contentious decisions if one hits the net and comes out and isn't given.

Kessel has been great. He has a swagger now out there, even internationally.

1 goal, 2 assists now for Kessel.

And now a slashing penalty. What a goon. :)
