Men's Olympic hockey

What does that mean for Sweden's medal?

I don't think they would have played the game if it had any effect on their medal. The article also doesn't mention if he actually played any games while using the "substance", he may have been "clean" up until now.

In this era with so many strong hockey nations, this is insanely dominant by Canada. Canada's puck possession has been incredible and to do it against the calibre of teams they have? This is probably the best team Canada has ever assembled in terms of how they play.

Haven't seen Sweden play this poorly since we lost to Czech Repbublic 6-1 or something a few years back. The canadian d is really solid tho.

Jamie Benn may be my player of the tournament, he has really been impressive from start to finish. That whole line has really.

I will not be disappointed in losing, but I will be disappointed in how we lost. I don't care if we have 4 top forwards gone, Sweden should be able to do more than this still.

It's hard to do anything when the other team simply will not give up the puck.

http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/olympics-fourth-place-medal/nicklas-backstrom-misses-gold-medal-game-over-use-of-banned-substance--source-135620293.html

An NHLPA source tells Yahoo Sports that Backstrom violated anti-doping rules after using an allergy medication. Some, like Claritin, contain pseudoephedrine, a banned substance by the IOC and the World Anti-Doping Federation

That sucks for Sweden and Backstrom. I don't believe for a second he was actually using anything for a competitive advantage.

edit: Elliotte Friedman speculates it might have been migraine medication he took.

Here's what I don't get for stuff like this. These teams have a ton of medical staff. They should have versions of these products that wouldn't cause a positive test. To take something that does show up on a test is pretty stupid.

Yup, that's absolutely got to be on the medical/training staff.

Carey Price's stats at the Olympics: 5-0-0, 0.60 GAA, .971 save percentage, 2 shutouts...& a gold medal

Can't believe people thought goaltending would be a weakness. Price and Luongo are both still top-10 goalies in the NHL. Anybody who didn't think that is crazy.
