Is anyone really surprised here? This should have happened like 2-3 years ago..

3 years ago they got to game 7 of the Cup final and the Luongo/Schneider issue was very much in its infancy. As much as Gillis has been a great punchline, there was absolutely no reason to pull the trigger on him before last summer. It's really what he's done in the last 12/15 months that cost him his job.

It seems longer since he's been bungling up that Canuck team. The writing's been on the wall nonetheless for a while.

Yeah, he didn't really improve the team nonis put in place.
You mean Burke right?

Did Burke trade for luongo?

Next Vancouver GM could be Trevor Linden with Bob Nicholson as team President...

That article is from yesterday.  Today Linden was name President but NOT GM.  He will oversee the hiring of someone to fill the GM position.

Many expected Linden, a Vancouver favourite, to have taken the job as the GM.

TSN's Darren Dreger reports that Jim Benning is expected so be named as Vancouver's new GM.

Benning has been working as an amateur scout in his post-playing career.  He was a former Maple Leaf, dratted sixth in 1981 and having spent 6 seasons with the Blue and White.  He later played for Vancouver for 4 seasons before turning to
scouting.
