Multiple media sources are tweeting that Ryan Miller is about to be traded to St. Louis. He was a late scratch in their game tonight and Enroth was the only goalie in warmups.

edit:

Jaroslav Halak traded to Sabres. #blues

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie  1m
Don't know the specifics yet but Miller is going to STL and Halak is going to BUF.

The Blues break their own trade (kinda):

The Blues have acquired goaltender Ryan Miller and forward Steve Ott from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Jaroslav Halak, Chris Stewart, prospect William Carrier, a first-round draft pick in 2015 and a third-round draft pick in 2016.

Wouldn't surprise me if Halak's time in Buffalo is brief. He's also a pending UFA, and I'm sure he's hoping to be able to find a better long-term option than Buffalo.

Wow!

That's a good move by the Blues. Very aggressive and might be enough to put them over the top, yet it's not like they gave up anything that significant.

That's a hell of a team they've got now, from top to bottom.

On another note, it's cool to see the Sabres getting creative this year. First the Vanek deal, now this. Nice.

So Stewart is a little closer to Toronto.  Hopefully one more trade and he'll be a Leaf.

The rumblings are that Buffalo is going to flip him to Ottawa, which is fine with me. He's inconsistent and not as good as you want to believe he is.

I don't think it is that good.  Giving up Stewart is a big loss.  He is a big, tough forward that can score.  Those guys are hard to find around the league.  They did upgrade their goaltending though.

I hope you hear my heart breaking here in Atlantic Canada.  You probably tell mothers when their babies are ugly.

Any idea what Ottawa is possibly willing to move for him?

Ott's a better player. Will score at about the same rate. Is more consistent. Knows how to play defence. Is much more physical despite his smaller size.

But he's also Steve Ott.  8)

No. Even ugly babies are cute in their way, but, with hockey players, there comes a time when you have to accept that they're just not the guy who thought they'd develop into, no matter how much you want that to be true. As for what Ottawa's giving up . . . likely picks and/or prospects. Stewart carries a significant cap hit into next season and the sense are becoming a budget team. Not sure teams are willing to give up that much for a guy who has a reputation of taking nights off and comes with a cap hit of $4M+.

Sounds perfect for the Sens!

That sums it up well, Ott is a much better player for the purposes of a Cup run.

In the right system Stewart could do well, but definitely not with the Blues. Way too inconsistent and not good enough defensively to play for Hitchcock.

I'd consider Stewart a Clarke MacArthur type reclamation project more than anything else.

Wow. I think BUF got the better of this one because if the picks. I understand STL is going for it though.

TSNBobMcKenzie: I'm told there aren't likely to be any more BUF moves tonite. I'd say BUF will try to flip Jaro Halak to MIN and Chris Stewart to OTT.

Just noticed now that it was their 2015 1st round pick the Blues gave up.

That's a bit different. It adds a greater element of risk to the deal.

Still a good deal though.

I think it's more that they got 2 moveable assets rather than the picks. They might have actually been able to get more in terms of picks if they traded Miller and Ott separately - though, they probably come out a head if/when they move Halak and/or Stewart.

Still likely to be a late pick. With the talent on the team playing a Hitchcock system, that pick is all but guaranteed to be 20th or later.
