Marlie?

I?d give him an AHL deal, sure.
No thx. Need every spot to develop potential future Leafs. Long past his BBD.

He played in the KHL the last several years and did ok - .5ppg which is decent there.
He's been helping at Grabovski's hockey camp.
He moved his family to Toronto for his son to develop his hockey in Canada.
Always seemed like a decent guy.
AHL deal doesn't take up a NHL contract slot - as a potential player coach who played in Toronto to help bring the kids along (maybe help new Russians with language barrier like Ponikarovsky, a Ukranian, helped him) ?

Might be worth having a chat with him - the Leafs developing a coach ...

Need vets around to help develop future Leafs. Having one that actually had some NHL success is a more than most teams will have. Also, one that speaks Russian to help the Russian prospects in acclimating to North America is also quite valuable. Have to play a certain number of vets every night in the AHL any way. He'd be there as a half coach/half player. There's a lot of potential value in having him as part of the roster that exceeds keeping a spot open for a longshot prospect who should probably be in the ECHL.

Kuly would be a good mentor for Grebenkin specifically, especially as he's still adjusting to the language and customs and all that here. Even their play styles are somewhat similar. With that said he definitely wouldn't be playing every game as the Marlies already have a number of veterans and there's a limit to how many you can play per night. I wouldn't really see the harm. Additional bodies are always needed since they need to cover NHL and AHL injuries.

Kulemin was also with Ufa Salavat Yuleyev while Rodion Amirov was there (would've been his birthday today). I like the idea of Marlie-ing him to help along Grebyonkin. Akhtyamov and Peksa will keep each other company in Cincinnati.

If we don't want to put him into games, I think there is room on the development coach squad with Antropov and co.

Crazy. Engvall really has everything he needs to at least be a good-to-great 3rd or 4th line player, and possibly even a decent 2nd liner. Really don't know how it didn't work out better for him. He'll likely be back in the NHL soon rather than later so hopefully this is a kick in the A for him.

Holl also on waivers today. He has this year and next left on his contract with a $3.4mil AAV.

GMs love overpaying ex-Leafs.

That is beyond crazy about Engvall. I'm a little shocked.
Hope he's ok.

I'm not shocked about Holl. He got off to a great start but seemed to go downhill from there.
I still think the Leafs PK missed him some last year.
I wonder if he'd be a candidate for a retained salary trade. (not to the Leafs)
