Morrow to Pittsburgh

Real_ESPNLeBrun: Morrow hasn't signed the paperwork yet but he's indeed decided to waive NTC and head to PIttsburgh

He's 34 but I think he will be able to make a significant contribution to the pens playoff run this year.

I really like the pick up for pens of it goes through.

For the love of God Nonis, do not trade for Clowe.

If we could pick him up for a guy like Finn and a 5/6/7 type of pick then I might be interested.

His contract is pretty bad, but I'd rather give that type of money to him than to Bozak.

I think he could make a formidable checking line with Komarov and McClement.

I'd imagine that Pens fans are pretty upset at this point.

Ray Shero usually makes better trades than this.

Twitter seems to be somewhat split, Bobby Mac did make a good point on the Penguins young depth on D.

If you draft well, gives you currency to make trades, like PIT's Morrow for Morrow. PIT could move Joe M because they have so many young D. Bortuzzo, Despres, Harrington, Pouliot, Maatta...PIT has many of them so Joe Morrow was expendable.

Morrow for Morrow is an amusing 'headline' trade, but I'll take Kari Takko for Bruce Bell in '90. Yes, the NHL had a Takko Bell trade.

;D

I agree that it's a good point. I think it's a really good blueprint for how and why young players or high round picks should be dealt. If you're a legitimate contender with good depth, first round picks and good prospects are expendable.

It's also worth nothing that this deal allowed them to move up two rounds in the draft too, that's probably a position where they can come close to replacing Joe Morrow.

They must really like Morrow if Dallas had to give up a 3rd rounder, too.

For those interested, here's what the Bruins apparently offered:

@HackswithHaggs: Bruins offer that lost out to Pens was Alex Khokhlachev & 2nd round pick

Yeah I don't know if J Morrow was the one out of there prized collection of D prospects that I'd move... for a spent force like Brenden Morrow.

Maybe I'm overlooking things but this could be payback for robbing Dallas blind in the Neal-Goligoski trade.

I've had some time to really look at this, I think it could be a big win for the Penguins, playing with Malkin and or Crosby will really highlight the shot of Brendan Morrow.
