New Logo and Uniform potentially in 2016/17

Love that the lettering is now centered.

But I prefer the royal blue of the similar logo as opposed to the navy blue.  The colour will have to grow on me.

I think it looks great, although I agree that the symbolism of the veins isn't the greatest idea if they are to keep this logo for any significant length of time.

I will say that I don't love the idea of the thirteen veins on the Leaf representing the # of cups won. Because, you know, there's something about that that implies a degree of permanence.

They'll just add another Vein or three. You'll hardly even notice it.  ;)

The thing to hope for in 10 years time, is a really busy looking logo.

On a more serious note, I'm surprised how much I like it!

That's a good one.  We can only hope.

I like it quite a lot.  The wordmark is very well done.  Agree with Peter D. about the blue, but there's nothing wrong with it as shown.

Love it.

And yeah, they'll just add a vein for a championship.  Apparently the German national team does this with stars if they win a World Cup.

A+ from me. I'm obviously biased but I feel it really stands up to the Blackhawks, Red Wings and maybe one or two others I'm forgetting as one of the better works of art in the league.

Twitter is already wondering how Lou could possibly let the logo get away with wearing a moustache.

Yeah, it's no big deal.  Adding an extra vein would be subtle.

No different than the four stripes on the Isles logo representing their four Cups.  Super easy to add another without altering anything.

Love the new logo.  The veins representing the Cups and the founding of the team is nicely thought out.  I'm on board, now to win Cup 14 and have to update that logo  :D

Looks good. They've made necessary corrections to the older logo that improve it significantly (fixing the text, removing the additional outline, etc.)

I'm looking forward to seeing what the uniforms will look like. It's one thing to have a nice logo; it's another to use that logo properly.

I read that then I looked at the logo and thought people were realllly stretching to make jokes.

It's thicker and better formed than any moustache I could ever hope to achieve :(

The logos from 38-67 basically had that same mark at the bottom, as did all the logos on the alternate jerseys that used that design.

I don't love the crooked stem at the bottom. The whole thing is all nice and symmetrical except for that one little bit at the bottom.

Looking over it, it sort of strikes me as though there's maybe an idea that would have been new-ish but I think might have worked really well. Basically, keep the overall shape of the logo they've used for the last 30+ years but stylize the edges similarly to what they've got in the new one. I'm not a graphic designer so I don't know what terms to use but something that would essentially look like this:

Maple-Leaf-4428878.jpg

But, you know, blue and white.

Because, and this may just be me, but doesn't the new/old logo....not look very much like an actual Leaf from a Maple tree?

Anyways, I can't help but feel like the reaction to this is "good, but not permanent good" and I suppose there's a part of me that thinks that what really separates the Leafs logo from the other "original" 6 logos is that the Leafs change their logo as much as they have.

Well, as someone who taps trees and makes syrup I can tell you the new logo depicts a leaf from a red maple, which has serrated edges, rather than a sugar maple, which has smooth edges.  The pic Nik posted is of a (red) red maple leaf.  You can compare them here:

https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://northernwoodlands.org/images/articles/leaves_spr07.jpg&imgrefurl=http://northernwoodlands.org/knots_and_bolts/red_versus_sugar&h=465&w=600&tbnid=7nSeu3yWjECBGM:&docid=jxJ9jYlC86-JcM&ei=ei2yVtbCGur4jgSEqJyYDw&tbm=isch&ved=0ahUKEwjW58WzhNzKAhVqvIMKHQQUB_MQMwgxKAAwAA

What I would say is that the new logo depicts a red maple leaf, somewhat stylized of course, just as the current (post-70s) logo is closer to a sugar maple leaf.

My point isn't so much about the edges as it is the sort of elongated middle.
