4 on 4 and 3 on 3 are both gimmicky and stupid.  Keep it at 5 on 5.  We have the shoot outs to decide things if there are no over time goals anyways.

You view 4 on 4 and 3 on 3 as gimmicky and stupid but you are ok with shootouts?

They have shootouts is soccer.  They also don't have overtime where players must leave the field in a Mad Max last man standing scenario.  Shootouts are fun.  Its like one one instead of 4 on 4 ;-)

You know what else they have in soccer? Ties. Lots and lots of ties.

Soccer also determines championships based on regular season standings and has their mecca of championships open to determination by shootout.  I don't think we should be looking to soccer as the bastion of formatting.

They also have 3 point wins, so the teams try not to tie.

The NHL has jumped the shark with this one.  Shootouts and the three point game were already stupid ideas.  4-on-4 is pretty iffy.  3 on 3 is shorthand for 3-ring-circus.  Reminds me of playing hockey as a kid when you're playing in a tournament and someone needs to win the game for the brackets to make sense so they do 5-on-5 for two minutes, then 4-on-4, then 3-on-3, 2-on-2, 1-on-1.. then I'm too tired and the other guy beats me and I regret not telling the coach for the next 25+ years.
