Nik Hagman

Sad. Tough when you can be had for nothing and everyone takes a pass though his contract may have something to do with that.

The Flames still need to do what they needed to do a couple of years ago: blow it up and start over. Some of their top players are nearing the end, they have a weak crop of prospects and I think their team is in chronic suck mode.

Even if they turned it around and made the playoffs, they're not going to win anything. Their older top guys will be long out of gas before they get there if they haven't reached that point already.

I can't believe they dumped Dion for nothing. As much as we can criticize the direction of Burke, at the very least he continues to turn over the roster with younger players that may have some potential.

What a dichotomy between the Oilers and Flames though.

imagine all that garbage (not Ian of course) they took for Dion ;D

Hagman was not garbage.  He didn't score 27 for us like he did for the Stars but I think he got close to 20 in his 1 full season here.  To me he was easily the best player going the other way.

He had 20+ in each of his two seasons with the Leafs. And that was in 65 games or less both seasons. Granted, consistency always seemed to be an issue.

I still can't believe how poorly Stajan has played since he signed his new contract for the Flames. 6 goals, 33 points in 88 games. Yikes...

Maybe he wasn't performing but giving up a potential 20-goal guy on waivers for nothing when you are 3rd last in goals for? Another puzzling move from Calgary.

As far as his performance for them, he had 3 straight 20-goal seasons before going there and always struck me as having decent finish if he got some opportunities.  I don't know the details of their lineup but maybe he's still close to that level if he gets on a decent 2nd or 3rd line.
