Nonis, Horachek and assistants fired

No surprises there. I still expect we'll see some changes to the scouting department, as well. Especially the professional scouts.

Had to happen.  Nonis built this team.  You don't get to pat him on the back for doing an ok job on the start of the rebuild and ignore the previous few years.

Not a surprise. Spott seems to be the one guy who might have a beef but it seems pretty clear that they want to give whoever comes in as GM or Coach a blank slate to build his own staff.

Thank god. I really thought Nonis was going to stay.

So does Burke wait 1 day or 5 days before he whistles for Rover...I mean Nonis to come over?

So does Cliff Fletcher have a job for life then or something?

Where do you think they got the idea for that Legends Row thing?  Fletcher has been sitting in the same spot for the last 5 years.  Noone is sure if he's just sleeping or dead, but he's just there and noone wants to bother him.

Shanahan so needs to do a executive discipline video for each firing in the style of his old player discipline videos, complete with slow-motion breakdown of the various offences and relevant prior history of discipline.

Leave it to the Leafs, though, to be as screwy as suggesting that two guys are going to both be the interim GM. For a team with a pretty ill-defined management structure that doesn't really help things.

Well, I think his job is basically to be a face older fans recognize and to collect a paycheque. I doubt he has much in terms of actual responsibilities. They probably like to keep him around to hear his stories. You know how old people love to tell stories.

Nonis. Carlyle. Poulin. Loiselle. Farrish. Cronin. Gordon. Spott. Horachek, St. Croix. All good people let down by underperforming players.

Man, what a free ride these guys got from the Sun.

No Burke and Wilson on that list? I'm sure it was just an oversight.

Eh, the argument for keeping Nonis around was always just that he was largely a victim of the Peter principle and of the no-rebuilds policy from the board. I don't mind that he was let go but I'm not exactly thrilled with the idea that his job performance with the Leafs is going to earn him a paid vacation or the chance to go somewhere else and be a legitimately useful AGM.
