Official Ottawa Senators Thread

Ah crap sens fans are starting to figure out what CBC's true purpose is!

McGuire said the Senators have good depth in net and that?s the key to anything. He?s confident goaltender Matt Murray can bounce back from his difficult first season.

?He?s won two Stanley Cups. There?s other guys, Filip Gustavsson, Joey Daccord, (Mads) Sogaard (down the road). Ottawa has positioned so well. They?ve done a great job with depth in goal,? said McGuire. ?It reminds me of when Lou Lamoriello was in New Jersey and they had Martin Brodeur, Chris Terreri, Mike Dunham, Craig Billington and Kirk MacLean. It was unbelievable.

?Ottawa?s depth in goal reminds me as being very much the same.?

This whole article is pretty amazing to read but hollllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

"A well respected evaluator of talent" . . . who hasn't held a position in an NHL management team or coaching staff in 25 years. Must be super well respected by the people around the league who need and hire talent evaluators.

I mean at least he will know the home town that each of their prospects grew up in?  That's what defines players evaluation...I think?

Also from the article: "This isn?t the first time during his career a team has tried to bring him out of the broadcast booth. McGuire has had several opportunities to work in the league, but it never seemed to be the right time or fit."... Sure, Jan.

This part is true, but not for the reason Garrioch wants us to think it is. He did have a bunch of interviews over the years...

Man, this is amazing.

The most perfect franchise for him. I can't wait until he stages a coup and gets Melnyk to give him Dorion's job.

I have the perfect coup approach:

Maguire: Hey Eugene, I want to be GM. How much are you paying Dorion? I'll take 15% less.

In 15 years of covering the NHL, we had never seen a coach so universally disrespected and disliked within his own organization.

McGuire fancied himself two parts Scotty Bowman and one part Bob Johnson. It turned out to be a superhuman leap of faith on his part.

At 32, McGuire was the youngest head coach in the NHL. He never had been a head coach at any level. And it showed. He is book smart and X's and O's smart, but often not people smart.

Aside from all that, I really wonder why this is necessary. Dorian seems to be doing a pretty good job assembling prospects so a high profile front office hire only makes sense if you have an ego-driven owner who wants to be in the news and overrates his own intelligence and...

I think I just figured out how this happened.

Pure speculation on this guy's part but wouldn't that be something if they push out Dorion and replace him with McGuire.

I mean I was kinda joking about the coup thing but it really wouldn't be that surprising. Reports are this was a Melynk hire, not a Dorion hire which is a little strange/unconventional. And while this is somewhat true for most hockey ops people Pierre McGuire clearly has dreams of becoming a GM and won't be content with whatever random title they threw at him here for very long.
