Official Ottawa Senators Thread

Man, Dan O'Rourke hates us for some reason.

Dustin Brown trips Karlsson, no call.
Dustin Brown slashes Phillip's stick in half, no call.
Borowiecki shoves a dude while battling for the puck, crosschecking.

Goddamn, I hate all referees, and I think they hate me right back.

The last three games have been atrocious.  We've hit our quota for being screwed by the refs for the entire season, and we did it in 4 days.

If the hockey Gods do exist, it should be smooth sailing for the rest of the year, with respect to officiating.

Yeah we certainly didn't get many calls the last two games. Brutal but calling out the illuminate officials just makes it worse...

Was downtown today checking out the preparations being made along the Canal and at Confederation Park...looking pretty cool down there.

How's the canal looking?

Heard there's been some concern that it won't be open this weekend due to the mild weather.

Looks fine to me right now, though I only pass by it for a moment on the bus toward school. We're getting temperatures hovering around 0 the next two days I'm pretty sure, though. So who knows?

Ern - your hookup for this weekend come through?

Got 1 ticket.  Gave it to my father.

Wanted 2 for obvious reasons... it's in a box.  It's a work "event"... I told him to just go and have fun.

Honestly... this karma thing better come back to me ten fold some day.

Appeasing the karma police is never a bad call - you're in for some special treatment
I got hooked up for all of the events at the Convention center...looking forward to it still but I really wanted to be at the Casino tonight. So close! I'm taking my dad and youngest nephew to the Fan Fair event on Saturday, should be fun.

http://www.ottawasun.com/2012/01/26/heatley-vs-melnyk-court-case-soon

Heatley and Melynk will be going to court over that $4mil bonus that Heatley received prior to being traded to the Sharks. I really don't see what sort of case Melynk has here. Sure, I admit that the entire situation sucked for the sens, but Heatley had a no-trade clause and was completely in his right to use it.

As for other teams not willing to trade for him until that bonus was paid out, well duh. Why would they make a trade prior to July 1st if they could just as well wait?

?The decision by Heatley not to accept that deal not only cost (Melnyk) $4 million, it did a lot of damage to the franchise.?

Sources say in the filing, it is claimed that Heatley?s decision to kill the deal also hurt the team?s ability to sell season tickets and sponsorship packages

I don't get it.  His contract granted him the right to make the decision.  Does the contract make him liable for all of those consequences that the franchise suffered?  Don't think so, they accept those consequences when they gave him the NTC.

If Heatley loses, do we have a case against Sundin?  And every other NTC player has to watch his step now?  Give me a break, if you're going to cry over it don't give out the damn NTCs in the first place.  We can love or hate the decisions the players make but the contracts give them the rights to make the decisions in their best interest.

I don't get it either, but there's gotta be something there.  Some kind of loophole or precedent.

You don't get as rich as Melnyk by wasting money pursuing frivolous lawsuits.

I don't know, sometimes you do. I imagine this is more to prove a point and challenge the system than anything with any sort of precedent or anything. I don't imagine this well turn out in Melnyk's favour.

In other Melnyk news, he admitted on the radio today that he spoke with Murray about having Lehner play a few games this season.

You just sign the cheques, Uncle Moneybags.  Leave the hockey decisions to the people you pay to know hockey.

In a perfect world these two quabling millionaires would have to forfeit the 4M to MADD or something similar
