Official Ottawa Senators Thread

It looks like Butler is on the first line.  How is he doing this year?  Is he looking like a 20+ goal scorer now or in the future?

He was a healthy scratch for a while before his stint on the top line. He's a work in progress but I wouldn't say at this point that he's got a 20 goal season in his future.

He was godawful for the vast majority of the year, but has been doing well recently.  He got another chance on the top line after that 7 game losing streak and he's been making the most of it.  He's got 6 points in his last 6 games, but 9 points in the previous 41.

I'm listening on the radio, did Neil really just beat Chara in a fight? The guys on the Team are in ecstasy.

I suppose Neil gets the victory for the takedown, but it looks like Chara landed more punches and just lost balance at the end. Still, the fact that Neil didn't die during the altercation is a pretty big accomplishment, so I'll let him have it.

Well that wasn't nearly as one sided as I expected ("NEIL'S GOT HIS HELMET OFF!  OH MY!!!"), but credit to Neil for hanging in there with that beast.

Auld needs to be better than that - two of the first three goals were saveable.
Again Neil gets the rally going though we just came up short. I have a feeling the Sens & Bs are on a crash course to playing each other in the playoffs...I hope I'm wrong.
Alfie with 22 now..(!)

I'm praying one of New Jersey, Pittsburgh, or Philadelphia falter enough so that we can steal that 6th spot and play Washington/Florida/Winnipeg.

The hockey gods aren't helping though.

Chara looked like he was scared once he went to the ice.

It was a good tussle. Neil took the majority of punches but was able to get the giraffe to tumble. IIRC Z and Neil are pretty tight friends.

Yeah - with Lehner up if we're pooched if one of Auld or Lehner get hurt. I predict it's Wiercioch going back...

I think you forget who your GM is. It's clearly a 1st round pick going the other way.

It's worth the 2nd getting him signed - this shores up our goaltending situation but I think this means Lehner is going back down?

Sens get Blues goalie

The Senators nabbed St. Louis Blues goalie Ben Bishop Sunday in exchange for a second-round draft pick in 2013.

Bishop, 25, has spent the entire season with the Peoira Rivermen, the Blues? American Hockey League affiliate. Bishop has a record of 24-14-0 in 38 games with the Rivermen, posting a league-leading six shutouts, a 2.26 goals-against-average and .928 save percentage. Bishop?s 24 wins are also tied for the AHL lead.

Bishop was thrilled to learn he?s been dealt to Ottawa.

?I?m very excited. I couldn?t be more happy, especially to a team like Ottawa, with a great history and the fan support they have there,? Bishop told the Sun from Peoria.

?I?m looking forward to getting up there and start working. There?s been talks for the last couple of days. I knew this was possibility. I?m excited that this is overwith and I can get back to worrying about playing goalie. This is going to be a really good opportunity for me.?

Bishop said he worked for three years with Senators goalie coach Rick Wamsley in the Blues organization.

Bishop is 6 feet, 7 inches, 215-pounds and a native of Denver, says a release from the Senators.

He?s appeared in 13 NHL career games, all with St. Louis, posting a 4-5-1 record with one shutout and a 2.83 goals against average.

Bishop has been displaced by Brian Elliott, who won the backup job in training camp.

?He?s a really good prospect,? said a league source.

?He had a great camp. It was close between him and Brian Elliott. Bishop is a strong prospect.?

Bishop will be insurance for an injured Craig Anderson.

More to come...
