Official Tank Nation Topic

Not a bad position to be in really.  Only prob might be that he can't talk to other teams before free agency.  He could let the chance to play now and make cash go away and team he hoped for might not even be interested.  If it was me I would sign and play right away.

Well, I might too but then like Carlton said you can see the temptation, and no player can talk to teams before they're unrestricted barring a trade of rights ( is that an option for Anaheim? ).

He seems like a prize free agent so I'm not sure he'll get boxed out considering the cost, and if the difference is total confidence in your choice versus a bit of cash, well...

Isn't this the same situation as Blake Wheeler? He chose the freedom over the extra few dollars.

They are similar but I think because Schultz played some junior hockey after being drafted his entry level contract is different.  And the fact that if he signs this season he gets to burn one year of his entry level deal which is already only 2 years thus making him a restricted free agent after next year.

Tank nation seems to have stalled. Even though the Leafs lost again, the teams below them in the standings seem hesitant to gain points on them (Isles gain one, Canes lose, Minnesota is losing in the 3rd. I guess that's why they are all at the bottom of the league. :P

If the Wild lose, Leafs will remain tied with them for the 6th overall pick.

Burke said today (Star) that taking is out of the question.

Too bad the players did not get his memo.

Up to four first rounders were offered but Burke wisely determined that it was more important to keep this group together. This ensures that the Tank Nation thread will be with us for another year.

Some might call this typical Burke bluster, but I actually believe him.  He should be absolutely embarrassed that the team keeps finishing so low.

Burke can say tanking is out of the question but there's not a damn thing he can do to stop it at this point.

Burke can't come out and say "we're tanking" for obvious reasons.

I always hope for the best when I watch them - even tonight. Can't help myself. But once the game is over, I hope they don't win another point because they could really use a top pick. Hopefully, they get something better than Kadri or Schenn this spring.

Yes he should and clearly he is.  But I don't get why anyone would think he would say otherwise. As noted, the previous Sens owner (one of the last 20 of them.. maybe it was Jimminy Christmas) openly talked about taking to get the Daigle pick. He was fined $100,000 and the lottery system was implemented around that time as well.

Why are people saying taking instead of tanking? Is it a joke to do with a spelling mistake in the Star article or something?

I looked but maybe they fixed it >_>

Haw haw.

I was honestly wondering the same thing.  Maybe it is just the Colbourne disease spreading....  :o

Of course tanking is out of the question to the GM, Coach, and Players.  It doesn't matter though cause they suck enough it's happening regardless.

Nah, we'll go on that pointless win streak that will jump us to 9th or 10th or something and give Burke and co. that hope for next season that we are in fact better than our record.

THEN!!!!!  Burke will make 2 very small, mostly minor, offseason transactions (re: Burke 2010 with Armstrong, Versteeg) and (re: Burke 2011 with Connolly and Lombardi/Franson) and say that he feels he's augmented this great group.

I dunno about that anymore. I don't think this group has it in them to even do that.

I have never been a proponent in tanking, just think you have to fight the good fight, but this year with this collapse is different, this team is lost and they need a very good number 1 pick to add to the team, we need to have more talent. So as I attend the Tampa game tomorrow night, I may just cheer for the other team for the first time in my 55 year existence. Just a pitiful end to this season.
