Official Tank Nation Topic

So does this count as yet another win once things don't matter?

Only if the Leafs miss the playoffs. If they make it, it was the beginning of the turn-around.

I couldn't have said it better myself.  I passionately want to see the Leafs get in the playoffs.

Honestly if the Leafs make the playoffs, they'd be on such a roll that the 1st round could be allot more interesting then most would think.

Why is this tank nation crap back... I hope they come back make the playoffs and shut this crap thread up once and for all.

AGREED!!

It would have been tank nation had Wilson remained. As it stands now we want Carlyle and the Leafs to turn it around.

I think it is quite simple, but if you really cannot see it then I will try to explain it.

When Leafs fans lose hope of making the playoffs the games in March and April can be difficult to watch. With Wilson in place, the team was in a tailspin and clearly set to miss the playoffs again. At that point the people that want to find the silver lining cannot help but think that the one good thing that could still happen is to slide further and further down so as to secure a higher draft pick - fire Wilson after the season, and start fresh again next October.

But now that Carlyle is in place there is a reason to want to win again even if they do not make the playoffs. Winning now sets a better tone for next season with Cralyle.... and, although very unlikely, we can think about the fact that the Leafs might make the playoffs if they can play inspired hockey with a new coach.

The Leafs have played the rangers a couple of times this season and won.  If they started playing a 7-game series with the Rangers today, the Rangers would certainly be favoured but I just wouldn't be all that surprised to see the Leafs take the series.  There's enough luck in hockey and the teams aren't as widely separated as in other sports.

It just wouldn't be like the Raptors playing the Miami Heat where it would be the sign of the apocalypse if the Raptors were to win any multi-game series.

Are you being serious with this post? You think the Leafs would win a 7 game series against the league best Rangers?

We've won 2 of 3 against them this season, so it's certainly not ridiculous to think they could continue to play well against them in a playoff series (as much as regular season doesn't mean much in the playoffs).

It doesn't mean anything in the playoffs - you know that. I don't think you guys are showing the Rangers enough respect.

As much as I don't think it would happen, I think the Leafs would have a better chance against the Rangers than they would against the Bruins.

It's impossible for anyone not trolling to read what was said in what you're quoting as anything other than the Leafs could win. Nobody has said that the Leafs would be the favourites or anything close.

By saying it is not impossible that we could beat them?  How is that not showing enough respect, are we supposed to get down and grovel at the feet of the almighty Rangers?

"It doesn't mean anything in the playoffs" - but apparently that only applies to the Leafs success against the Rangers, and not to the Rangers being in 1st place - that's infallible.

Is it very likely? No, and no one is saying it is.

Like you showed Carlyle?

No one is saying the Leafs would be favoured in a series against the Rangers.

I don't think I need to be "trolling" to point out how silly the suggestion of a 12th place team taking out the leagues best is.

Well, that or ignorant of the concept of an upset in sports. But, hey, I'll leave that up to you.

he does have one point ...once a team enters 12th place they become a 12th place team for the rest of the season...i think it's part of the CBA
