So tough for the Oilers. You really have to feel for them going through the same issues year after year.
But McDavid is ok with it.  He's got a heated driveway.

I mean, if you just focus on the Oilers and ignore every single other thing in the world it's enough to make you believe in a sense of karmic justice.

Wow.  There is some venom there.  Reminds me of this place 2006 - 2016.

For sure! Key difference is, despite certain specific subjective opinions, the Leafs did not have anyone remotely resembling McDavid, Draisaitl or like 6 years of top 5 picks (4 1st overalls!), just the moribund management high on the fumes of a bygone era.

On the positive side if they keep sliding I can recycle my "how many lottery picks does it take to make a mediocre team" jokes.

I almost stopped being a Leafs fan when they treated Sundin like crap for declining the waive his no trade clause when the team was still in the playoff race.  I disagreed with a lot of the other moves the organization made in not trading off assets but I think a guy who is one of the best players to ever put on the jersey should have more say in that decision making.  To then not bring him back the following year out of annoyance and then let the fanbase get upset when he signed in Vancouver really struck me the wrong way.  To follow it up with a decade of awful decision making was tough.

Edmonton's decision making through this honestly feels way worse though.  They have the best offensive player in the league and possibly the second best one.    They bungled draft pick after draft pick.  They make bizarre decisions to increase their depth.  I just don't get their organizational plan at all.

They're terrible at drafting outside the 1st round. You have to go all the way back to Jeff Petry in 2006 to find one of their picks from round 2 on that developed into a legit top 6 forward, top 4 D, or platoon capable goalie. If you want one that actually contributed for the Oilers, you have to go back to Jarret Stoll in 2002. There's a few one season wonders in there and a handful of borderline guys who are better suited to 3rd and 4th line/3rd pairing duty, but no real contributors.

On top of so-so drafting, like the Leafs of yore, Edmonton has no apparent development plans: just hype hype hype, hey why are you a bust?, bye what a locker room loser.
