Opening Round:Washington vs Carolina

Hmm.  ?Canes can take down Ovie & co.?  In a dream maybe, but in reality...nyet.

Capitals in 5.  Washington being the defending SC Champions couldn?t possibly lose this one.  No.

Caps in 7. Carolina has played well all season, but couldn?t score early in the season. They?re a much tougher opponent than they?re being given credit for.

Caps in 7. My heart wants me to pick Carolina here, especially since I'm not even that high on Washington this season, but I think their goaltending comes back down to earth.

I suspect no teams bothered to really game plan for Carolina (or Montreal, or New York) this season. Washington is picking them apart so far.

Holtby trying to sell the refs on his figure skating skills a goaltender interference. Wallmark tips in a changeup as a result of this Jonathan Quick impression.

It would have gotten him a gold medal.  :D

I feel bad for Svechnikov. I think when you can get their best player off the ice for 5 minutes by getting him to fight, you do it but it sure turned ugly when he got knocked out. At 19 years old and 40lbs lighter then Ovie the fight hardly seemed fair. Hope he's okay and we see him back soon.

How does Ovechkin not get a hearing there for punching a player on the way down and essentially driving his head into the ice?

Disagree, that's a reach. He didn't drive his head into the ice. The momentum of the kid going down and OV having a hold on his jersey caused that. OV did nothing wrong here. Unfortunate the kid got hurt.

I'm with Guilt Trip on this one. Looks to me like he simply fell on top of him. I'm guessing the commentator here has never been in a fight. He most certainly did not intentionally ram his head into the ice.

Btw, this is a great exhibit of how stupid it is to allow fighting in hockey.

It is time to get rid of it but in order to do that, the refs need to start calling every glove in the face and all that after whistle garbage.
