I believe the rumours were that the Rangers really wanted him but were coming in lower than other teams. So they either upped their offer or Panarin took less. I'm guessing he decided $11mil playing at MSG was good enough.
 
Montreal or Columbus are also in position and probably sour enough to fire one out there.
 
Rangers did a good job here and with a bit of luck (and Broadway appeal) are coming into the season + Kakko, Trouba, Fox, and Panarin.

You're probably right. But if there's any personal animosity between the management of another club, and the leafs, it's probably in long island, and the prevention of these offer sheets seems to be at least partially due to mutual respect, no?

Leafs basically gave Lou a chance after his reputation was down in NJ and he built himself up again. Not sure what animosity he would have.
