Panthers @ Maple Leafs - Apr. 2nd, 7:30pm - SN, Fan 590

Wasn't pretty against a tired and injured Panthers team.
But it wasn't terrible either. Hard fought game.
A number of Leafs played well. I though Stolarz held them in there.

Playoff berth clinched. 4 pts up on Florida for home ice in the 1st round with 7 games to play.

Stolarz was very small there. Not blaming him because he was screened but there was a lot of net showing there when Stolarz looked the wrong way.

At first I didn't like the goal but Bennett pulled the puck to his left very cleverly just before he shot it. It was a very nice shot.

And the young power forward MK23.

You can see why teams were asking at the deadline. But Treliving is no dummy. There are tanks in this league. And there a few tanks equipped with wheels rather than tractor treads. But there aren't many tanks with wheels AND mittens.

My feed was in and out all night but I was trying to watch Domi in his shifts. He is a key to the Leafs playoff chances. He can't be a defensive disaster, and he needs to play smart and chip in some offense. L3 just has to produce at least occasionally or they are sunk.

Goal 3 was all three.

He's unlikely to suddenly play good defense.
They should put him on a wing. Both Laughton & Jarnkrok are better defensively and ok on faceoffs. They could platoon for faceoffs and contain Domi's liability on a wing.
Domi did fairly well on a wing in last year's playoffs.

This is a good suggestion.

Full credit to Leafs for the win. The entire line up played Berube hockey, particularly L1 and Marner (throwing himself around in dying minutes to defend, and the sweetest North pass to Knies for the 3rd goal).

Stolarz outplayed Brobovsky. And except for 6 or 7 minutes at the end of the second period, the Leafs played a full game.

This game mattered. And all the Core4 and many others showed up.

This is how the playoffs will look like..... .....EXCEPT Panthers didn't play dirty.

Loved Maurice's quote at start of game.... (summarizing)

'first place in Atlantic isn't important because you have to beat a team from Ontario and a team from Florida for where we want to go'

Maurice, Zito, Viola are there to go all the way.
Never considered the travel would be chill for all teams in all Ontario and all FLD matchups.

I was going to say the exact same thing. This team would look dramatically weakened without Marner.
Probably fighting from the outside looking in to get into the playoffs.
Mitch leads his team in scoring, is tied for 4th in the league in scoring, 2nd in Leafs all time ppg among top 15 scorers, 3rd in the league in takeaways/60, has been in on 38% of the Leafs goals and is tied with McMann at +11 leading all Leafs forwards.
Like we saw last night, he's doing it at both ends of the ice.
If they lose him for nothing, they're stupid.

Maybe wait until we see what happens in the playoffs before throwing "everything he wants" at Marner. Playoff performance will play a large role in what they decide to do with both Marner and Tavares. Unless one or both have already decided they are leaving.

A deep run would resolve a lot.
