Parenteau to Leafs

JVR - Bozak - Parenteau
Lupul - Kadri - Panik
Spaling - Holland - Bailey
______ - _______ - Komarov

I'm giving up if Bozak is still on the top line.

Ya, me too.

I'm hoping to see at least one prospect in the lineup next year.

JVR/Kadri/Mathias
Lupul/Nylander/Parenteau
Komarov/Holland/Winnik
Spaling/Bozak/Panik

It's not a good lineup but Nylander's growth would be the one redeeming feature of the next year.

Nylander's not going from playing wing in the AHL to C on the 2nd line of an NHL team.

Maybe. maybe not, who knows but TO has had a disconnect between the AHL and the Leafs in the past, like I can remember Wilson and BB saying they thought Kadri would make a better winger than center but everytime he was returned to the Marlies he ended up at center. My roster doesn't necessarily reflect how the Leafs will look at the beginning of the year but I'm hoping Nylander does show a center aptitude and ends up on the Leafs as a center sometime this year. It's possible Marner never becomes a center but I think we all hope he ends up there.

And lastly is the above lineup a proper NHL lineup?

Parenteau?  Why?

Because he has scored at nearly a 50 point pace for most of his career and, at 1.5 million for one year, could be a good bet to have a nice season and yield something good at the deadline, not to mention the fact that Toronto has to ice an actual nhl hockey team?

Why do we always have to look at every signing as someone to be traded at the next trade deadline?  :-\

Well, if you are what you eat, maybe, you're also what you read and hear!  ;)

'We' don't always have to but there's zero doubt from the mouth of Dubas that the Leafs are trying to maximize assets. In one sense it's a shame, looking at players as commodities only, and maybe that's where analytics misses some of the human component, but then again players want to get showcased at times.

I wanted to see Sundin retire a Leaf and I'm still a little miffed that he didn't, and I blame some people for that... however... where the Leafs are right now, after 10 years of kicking and screaming against the reality that is the salary cap pie chart ( and the percentages that are players ) I'm reeeaaallllllyyy on board with flipping maximized talent/assets for picks, especially when there's probably only one player I care about on the team currently, Rielly.

The Leafs have 7 years to get it right when they add McDavid...

Because the team is going through a serious rebuild?

Because we all sound like the TO. media.  ☺

Or we are talking rationally about simple hockey transactions that have nothing to do with the media?

Basically, this. Anyone the Leafs add who isn't signed beyond the 15/16 season is going to be considered trade bait for the deadline because of the reality of the Leafs' situation. What they're looking to do is add as many potential long-term assets as possible, and the guys they're signing as free agents are partially means to that end.

I would also think that the signings are necessary to give TO's youth time to develop.
