Phil Kessel

nothing was wrong with it. It was a perfectly good pass to the back end before Fraser held it for a while before passing it to Holzer who shot it through a bunch of players while Kessel was still on the side boards.

Good, thank you for acknowledging he was part of the play then.

No problem. When the Leafs hang Kessel's number in the rafters, where do you think they'll put it in the highlight video? At the beginning to stir up those memories or near the end to really get the crowd in a frenzy?

I've got some news for you Nik, without assists like that, Sundin isn't in the rafters either.

Well, leaving aside that you're largely missing my point, even if you halve Sundin's assist total to just have his goals and primary assists he'd still be at 564 goals, 965 points so they'd probably make room.

edit: That math is probably a little unfair to Sundin though. Because there are more primary assists than secondary assists it stands to reason that more than half of his assist totals would be primary assists.

Not really. I'm done with it... I like the second assist. Some folks don't. I suppose it's as easy as that.

Or it could be that not each and every assist, primary or secondary, represents an equal contribution to the scoring play simply by virtue of being one of the last two guys to have touched the puck and that while it's probably fair to assume a relative uniformity of value in point totals in a macro sense when we have the benefit of actually watching the games and the plays we can use our noggins to evaluate each scoring play and the relative contributions of those to whom it's accredited.

I know it's not a simplistic point but I do think it's a fair one.

I personally think Kessel's pass was an important part of the play. - He didn't take a low percentage shot and made a responsible pass to Fraser who managed to keep it in the offensive zone. - Just me.

If Kessel roofed one top shelf over the goalie's shoulder and someone were to say it was a lucky goal, most people would jump all over them. "No way, Kessel had that picked" and "Kessel is a noted sniper, that wasn't lucky" would be some of the responses thrown out.

When said shot hits the crossbar, it was purely bad luck or a tough break according to most of those same people. I don't get it.

Yes, and as we all know, Brett Hull also never experienced a slump.

Don't be ridiculous. After all, there's only so much a player can do to avoid black cats, stepping on cracks in the sidewalk, referring to The Scottish Play by name or setting sail on Candlemas Day. The difference though is that Hull managed to ameliorate all of these gaffes by making the appropriate sacrifices at the altars of Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos which, of course, allowed him to once again find the back of the net.

So really, what we should be asking ourselves is why Kessel hasn't consulted the relevant oracles and procured the three requisite white doves.

So Kessel has 0 goals after the first 10 games.  Who wants to take a shot at predicting how many goals he'll have after the next 10?

I say 4.

That'll make it 4 goals in 10 games but 4 total in 20.
