That's why it's time to get rid of him so somebody (hopefully soon somebody other than RC) can retool the D.

The problem isn't a single individual player. Getting rid of Phaneuf doesn't even begin to address the root of the team's defensive issues. I know you hate the guy, but, seriously . . . one player is not responsible for this mess. One coach might be, but no individual player is.

Of course getting rid of him does.  It gets rid of his lazy play, to name just one thing, which sends the wrong message right down the line.  I don't understand why anyone thinks this defense can be fixed while keeping such a flawed player as its centerpiece.

And I don't hate Phaneuf, as I said in the last GDT.  I am just sick of watching crap defense year after year after year.

Gardner sucks. They shouldn't build an outhouse around him.

He's got potential but he sure as hell shouldn't be mentored by Phaneuf.

No he doesn't. He's got skill, but no brains. He's just another flashy player with no head for the game. He'll never be more than a mediocre player.

Kadri paying attention to defense is a really nice sign, if he gets that under control, he has all the skills going the other way. The Leafs aren't a 'competent' team yet, but they're showing signs towards that, in spite of the last 4 periods of poor play.

Phaneuf and Carlyle aren't what's wrong with this team.

He's not the centrepiece. There's no such thing as a centrepiece. This is a team sport. The players on the ice need to function as a unit. It doesn't matter how good the individual pieces if they don't function well as a group. Changing Phaneuf isn't going to fix the defence if they keep playing the same way. Changing the way they play with Phaneuf very well could.

Oh come on, busta.

Anyhow, if there's no such thing as centerpiece, then you shouldn't have any objection to trading him.

TSN crew comparing Holland's play and ice time compared to Nazem's and basically saying how Holland has played better. Helps when when you have 2  linemates.
