Preseason: sens @ Maple Leafs - Sept. 22nd, 7:00pm - SN, Fan 590

Stick to the face with two minutes left kissed by the refs.  Mid season form indeed

Just noticed that the Leafs have Milk on their jerseys and Oreo on their helmets.

Nice.

Should have had TikTok and Weibo instead.

I'm here all week.

Honestly sloppy preseason/october/November is just fun hockey

Matthews behind the net in a 6 on 5 scenario was an interesting look

I like how direct Berube was in the post game. Said a few times the team got too cute and that's what I've felt for a long time. Hopefully he can simplify the game for those who need it.

Oh hey I was in the wrong thread last night.

I think that about sums up the last couple of seasons for the Leafs.

This is the Marner we need: oh weird plinko puck finds its way into your space? send some no-look sauce through the open slot to the wide open trailer you know is there from a shoulder check 4 strides ago. High end skill weaves order from chaos. We should make more chaos.

Wonder what Pacioretty's contract is going to look like.

He got $2mil with $2 mil in potential performance bonuses from the Caps last year.

My guess would be around league minimum so they can fit him under the cap plus performance bonuses with at least one of the bonuses fairly easy to attain. Maybe $2 mil in total bonuses - they can't go too crazy because of Marner, Tavares, Knies & McCabe contracts (plus others)

He made himself available for medicals more than a month ago. His fitness testing was apparently as good or better than prior to his Achilles injuries. His skating speed seems ok. Puck battles in practice and during the game were decent. He can still shoot the puck. He blocked shots and hit last night. He liked playing with Tavares. He fits the Berube desire to be difficult to play against. He was nervous before the game last night - seems like a decent guy.

Let's see if he can stay healthy thru' camp.
Otherwise, he looks worthy of a roster spot.

The other thing they have to watch is they don't stack the lineup with too many big men and not enough speed.

I like Pacioretty with Tavares. They play at the same speed. A younger worker bee on the RW for them would be solid.

Domi is fun vibes between games but during games makes me lose hair, unless he is on Matthews? wing (future insurance if Marner isn?t re-signed). Willy might be fully Sundin by November at this rate.

I still see no real role for Robertson while Domi is around; I guess they could sort of try something for half a season to pump a trade.

I suspect an off-wing McMann ends up with Tavares and Pacioretty. Although I wouldn't mind McMann-Willy-Jarnkrok then Pacioretty-Tavares-Domi as the middle-6.

Like you, I really just don't get what the plan is for Robertson at this point.

To me, among the top 9 (including Pacioretty), I think Nylander and Domi are the weakest defensively so they're probably better apart.

As Domi seemed to have some success with Matthews in the playoffs, maybe Knies joins them. Marner & McMann could help Nylander defensively.
Pacioretty & Tavares could play with Jarnkrok who would help defensively but can chip in offensively. Maybe Cowan if he justifies himself. I'm curious to see if Cowan could help on the PK but I have my doubts.

Minten & Grebenkin are waiver exempt callups for depth.

I too don't see where Robertson would fit - which he probably recognized earlier this summer. He doesn't seem to fit what Berube is looking for.
