Qualifier Game 5: Blue Jackets @ Leafs - Aug. 9th, 8:00pm - SN, TSN 1050

I don?t think I?ve ever seen two broken sticks at the same time like that.

Same.  I'm sure it's happened before I've just never seen a game where it did.

Nylander was an absolute disaster that period. Nearly gave them a 2-0 lead with a O zone giveaway resulting in a 2 on 1, and then after getting bailed out, promptly gave them the puck back in the defensive zone. His compete level in his own end is just pathetic.

What?s the rule for majors? Does Tavares need to be hurt?

I think the NHL's answer (but not necessarily mine) would be there would need to be more of a charge there for it to be a major as well (and an injury wouldn't have hurt). But yeah boarding calls are always a coin flip.

I agree. Absolutely brutal tonight.

Think they gotta drop Tavares back to the 2nd line and basically just play the top 6 as much as humanly possible.

Which is how they should have started the game. Instead we have this mish-mash, where the fourth line is getting more ice time than the third, Kapanen has more ice time than Nylander, and all kinds of crazy stuff.

I usually like Keefe's bench management but this has been bizarre.

Would help if Tavares had put one or two of those point blank chances in the net.

Mikheyev-Matthews-Nylander
Spezza/Hyman-Tavares-Marner

Johnsson-Kerfoot-Kapanen for when the top 2 are gassed.

I think it would be crazy to break up the big line. They?re generating scoring chances every shift, one is bound to go in soon.

I'd swap Johnsson and Mikheyev. Johnsson hasn't really been great but that trio has experience together. Soup hasn't really done anything either.

Well, Burke disagrees with each and every one of us.

Meh. It's the last period of hockey in sudden death. Unless they win, every decision will be monday morning quarterbacked. But I don't think Keefe has coached a good series, and here's another example - the team has the ability to roll 3 scoring lines with the bazillion dollars they've spent up front and destroy matchups, and keefe negates that advantage himself.

I think he's just trying to overpower Korpisalo ? who's fragile if you get one by him.  Plus the Jackets are down Atkinson and have had nothing going on offense.

Now of course they'll probably get their first PP goal....

Oops thought I heard them say he was out.
