Easton Cowan gains the zone, dishes off, and attacks the back post to draw attention off the shot.

Cowan punches the ticket to the Memorial Cup final

He buries the dagger shortly after in the empty net.

He's listed on the Blades roster as 5'8", 5'9" on EliteProspects, and this scouting report has him at 5'11".

I would describe Lisowsky?s play as a relentless pursuit of offense. He?s not the type of player to sit back and take a shift off or wait for the puck to come to him. Instead, he?ll go out of his way to make room for himself on the ice and get into a lane to either shoot or receive a pass. Lisowsky?s ability to scan the ice and read the play a step ahead of the opposition makes him one of the smarter players out there. He?ll find little gaps in coverage to thread a shot or pass through, and he?s a good enough skater and stickhandler to expose a weaker defender in order to get around them.

Sounds like a shootier Trevor Moore, maybe a bit behind Nick Robertson (who is a better passer and a slightly better shooter).

London has been stifled (1SoG in half the game) and down 3-0 but Cowan eats a huge hit to spring his line mate for their second shot and first goal of the game.

Both London shots have come off Cowan passes.

Owen Beck, the player I wanted the Leafs to draft has two goals for Saginaw

Cowan on the ice for all of London?s offense

Saginaw takes the lead back with 21 seconds to go off a semi blocked plinko puck and that?s the tournament.

Cowan's season totals:

Regular season: 54GP 34A 62A 96P, 1.78 PPG
Playoffs: 16GP 10G 24A 34P, 2.13PPG
Memorial Cup: 4GP 3G 4A7P, 1.75 PPG

Overall: 74GP 47G 90A 137P, 1.85PPG

Losing the game with 20 seconds left like that sucks but what a hell of a season.  I do wonder how his size is going to impact him for the next couple of years but he moves well and is quick at burst skating to change directions and angles that might do well enough to produce next year.

Saginaw tried to shut him down by steamrolling him (3 big ones of note), but he still ate the hits to make the plays and keep working. His frame looks small (and he skates with a slight hunch) but Cowan is a sturdy skater. He won puck battles 1v2 on the boards.

Easton Cowan: 5'11" 185lbs

Mitch Marner: 6'0" 172lbs
Nick Robertson: 5'10" 183lbs

Alex Kerfoot: 5'10" 185lbs
Brayden Point: 5'10" 185lbs
Travis Konecny: 5'10" 174lbs
Trevor Moore: 5'10" 194lbs

I think he'll be fine after an adjustment period. He's tankier than Marner, who deals with physicality by being a Gumby, and I think he has smarter body positioning instincts and more stable skating than Nick Robertson, who (tries to) deal with physicality by going through people. One habit I think we really like to see is when he dishes the puck off, rather than peel off to admire the pass, Cowan consistently heads to the net to open up options.

Cowan on the ice for all of London?s offense

He created the turnover at his blueline, and has since been credited with the secondary assist. So Cowan got a G, 1A, and 2A.

Not worried about his size at all. It's the fight in the dog that matters. Kucherov is smaller then Cowan.

For Cowan next season, does he have to start the season with the Leafs to be eligible for the NHL, or can he start in junior, then at a later date be called up and play up to 10 games and be eligible to be sent back to junior? This assuming that they want to sent him back rather than keep him in the NHL all season.

Essentially, a scenario I'm thinking is if they gave him a month or two in junior before calling him up - but not sure if that means he's then not eligible for the NHL if he has already played in junior next season.

I'm pretty sure once they are assigned to junior, it's for the entire year.

It's until their junior team is completely over, yeah.

I'd put Cowan in a 4th line checking role before sending him back to junior.

Honestly, I'd agree.  Unless he comes to camp looking a complete mess and overmatched (I don't think he will) I think he's better served in the NHL than back in the OHL.  I'd be more in favour of him having a Shane Wright kind of season where he stays in the NHL to practice over junior.    I think if anything having some built in off games to break up the season would be a more valuable thing for his development than being sent back to Juniors.
