Rasmus Sandin re-signed 2 yrs 1.4M AAV

Sounds like a copy of Liljegren's 1.4M/year (2.8M total)

His agent sucks?

With Nylander it felt like Dubas was underpaying him and didn't come up to the 6.9M offer until the last minute and that contract has been worth every penny and more.  I'm just not seeing where Sandin was worth more than this at this stage of his career.  And if he was really unhappy with the number why he signed for 2 years instead of 1.

It's good to have him back in the fold.  Some really tough decisions coming though now.  Malgin looks like he might break camp.  Zach Aston Reese might sign an 800K deal (or maybe not now).

A 12 forward, 7 defenseman, 2 goaltender lineup is going to be about 1.2M over the cap.  Some of our injuries are going to help delay decision making but we are going to have to trade someone in the 2+ million group to make room for this.

So assuming ZAR signs for $850k, this is what a healthy roster would look like:

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Nylander-Tavares-Malgin (or Gaudette or Robertson)
Engvall-Kerfoot-Jarnkrok
ZAR-Kampf-NAK

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl
Giordano-Liljegren
Sandin

Murray
Samsonov

Looks like pretty solid to me. Obvious issue is that it's $1.33mil over the cap. Injuries, especially Liljegren's, will push the problem down the line a little bit but eventually something will have to give.

I thought the same thing.  He declined it the day Liljegren signed and now accepts it.  No leverage, he caved.

Kyle's full statement
This morning, Rasmus Sandin and Lewis Gross reached out to us and informed us that after watching our game last night and seeing more injuries accrued by our defence, that they wanted to get this locked in today so Rasmus could get over to Toronto and help his teammates. We appreciate Rasmus and his camp taking that step today to get this contract done and allow him the time to ready for the final preseason games.

As stated throughout this process, Rasmus is a key member of the present and future of your team and we are excited today that he is en route to Toronto to ready for Opening Night in Montreal.

Everyone gets to say they sort of got what they wanted

I'd say Mr. Sandin saw an opportunity to get some quality ice time to establish himself.

What annoys me is this happens every year. They always go on and on about who's going to get playing time if everyone's healthy bla bla bla. The whole team is hardly ever fully healthy, and here we are with opportunities. He/his agent should've just stopped whining.

I think they were hoping some of the other comparable RFAs in his position would adjust the market. But Liljegren, Durzi, and Anderson just didn't help the case.

This messaging about seeing the injuries and helping teammates is just saving face, as they were already making the moves to sign earlier this week.

I'm pretty sure Zar-Kampf-Nak is the final boss in Legend of Zelda.
