Red Wings (7) v. Blackhawks (2)

OMG this one could be harmful to the harmony in my family. LHF= major Jonathan Toews fan. Son of LHF=major Detroit Red Wings fan. Discord? yikes!

Just when many thought the Red Wings were 'over the hill' so to speak, Detroit went out and defeated the bigger, faster' and more physical Anaheim Ducks

It's going to be interesting to note how Detroit's savvy forwards- Zetterberg, Datsyuk, & Fillipula-fare against the Hawks netminder Cory Crawford.

On the other end of the ice, it's going to be interesting to see how Detroit's 'keeper Jimmy Howard fares against a slew of Chicago's top guns.

The Hawks are well-rested compared to the Wings.  How this will factor in is anyone's guess.

Just don't count Detroit out yet.

Detroit 4  Chicago 1.

The  're-energized' Red Wings emerge victorious in Game 2, as Detroit made the most of it's scoring chances as they played a much more physical game against the suddenly outplayed Hawks.

With the win, the series is now tied at 1 game apiece.

Apparently standing in the crease negates goals again? Because Chicago just had their potentially game-tying goal waived off for it. Shaw was battling in front of the net and the ref called the goal off for goalie interference. At no point did Shaw make contact with Howard in any way though. I guess you could argue he prevented Howard from coming out of his net a little more, but you could make that argument on almost any play.

And instead of a tie game the Wings score a couple of minutes later to make it 3-1. Quenneville is not going to be a happy man after this.

So like half the Bruins goals against the Leafs.

Pretty much. And another reason it's ridiculous goalie interference no-goals can't be reviewed.

What I actually meant was half their goals vs Leafs were way worse interference.

I'm ok with it.  If Detroit beats Chicago we move up in the draft.  I'm fine with that.  I'm also fine if San Jose, Ottawa and the Rangers find a way to win their series.

Bickel gets called for a cross check later there after the Wings were getting away with murder in front of their own net all game long. Toews in particular got a bunch of cross checks after the whistle on the same play.

The refs really want the Leafs to have a better draft position.

That said, they must be on our side!  :)

I didn't get to see the game but was kinda surprised that Detroit is up 2-1. Good series.

I saw the highlights of the goals, so didn't see all the plays people were talking about above, but all I did see was the hit from behind on Franzen that led to the only Chicago goal.

wow, tonight's referees really have it in for Jonathan Toews. THREE consecutive penalties? GMAFB.

Many have been questioning the officiating in these Stanley Cup playoffs.  Some say it is getting worse, depending on who's playing in the particular series.

Guess this wasn't Toews lucky night.

Final score:  Detroit 4  Chicago 3  Red Wings lead series 3 games to 1.

Wow, what a way to unravel, Chicago!  The Hawks' captain Jonathan Toews found himself the recipient of not one, but three, yes, three consecutive penalties, which, enabled the Red Wings to enjoy an advantageous opportunity on the power play.  Add to that the fact that the Black Hawks hadn't given up a power play goal since April 22, to be exact.

Detroit's physicality was obvious simply too much for Toews to handle, leading to frustrations and emotions that marched him to the penalty box a bit too many times.  Detroit scored on one of Toews' penalties that proved to be the go-ahead goal, all the Red Wings really needed to preserve the win.

Better luck in Chicago for the Hawks, otherwise, elimination will be staring them in the face.

Great series so far!

Game 5 result:
Chicago  4  Detroit 1  Red Wings lead series 3 games to 2.

Two powerplay goals solved the puzzle that was Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard, all the Hawks really needed for the win.

This time, it was Detroit's turn in the penalty box, and Chicago forwards such as Jonathan Toews aiming at the net, that made the difference, as opposed to Game 4.:

The series now shifts back to Detroit Monday night for Game 6. Considering Chicago's intransingencies there so far in this series, can the Hawks continue the momentum?
