Line-up Notes

DET
?Jimmy Howard will start for Detroit on Friday
?Justin Abdelkader missed practice on Thursday but is expected to be able to play
?Stephen Weiss, a healthy scratch in Detroit's first 3 games, would likely play if Abdelkader is out

TOR
?Based on practice Thursday, Bernier will likely start the first game this weekend
?Lupul was unable to practice on Thursday because of a leg injury, although his status for tonight's game is unknown
?Kozun moved up to the 2nd line in Lupul's abscence at practice, so expect that change plus one of Frattin or Ashton coming in to the 4th line if Lupul is unable to go
?Defence pairings remained unchanged at practice, so all signs point to Gardiner sitting out again
?UPDATE: Lupul, Gardiner, and Reimer have all been confirmed to play at the morning skate, Robidas will be the healthy scratch on D

Injuries

?Pavel Datsyuk - Shoulder - Injured Reserve
Code:

?Joffrey Lupul - Leg - Day-to-day
?David Booth - Foot - Injured Reserve

I'm a glass half full guy, but I really see the value in Gardiner sitting out again.  I mean, ok, shake things up after a sluggish start.  The team wins a few games, which is great.  And Stuart Percy comes out looking pretty dang good in the process.  But, come on, get Gardiner back in the lineup, give Percy a night off tonight, then give Robidas a rest tomorrow night and get Percy back in.

I hope that they take Robidas out and not Percy. He is a very stable on the back end

I don't mind that but I'm concerned as to what happens to the PK if Phaneuf gets a penalty?

@jonasTSN1050

Jake Gardiner paired with Morgan Rielly this morning. Looks like he may get in tonight versus Wings.

No word on who, if anyone, would come out on D.  Also media saying looks like Reimer starts tonight.

It will be good to get Jake back into the line up.

Here's Paul Hendrick:

@HennyTweets

Reimer looks like he's starting. Lupul is back in the lineup. Gardiner playing with Rielly and Polak a possible scratch. #TMLTalk

Polak scratched over Robidas? Man. They love that leadership.

I'll wait for official word because I think Paul might just be guessing, but Polak played over 20 minutes against Colorado, compared to Robidas' 13:28.

Well, Gardiner played how much the game before he was scratched?

I'm glad that it looks like Gardiner is drawing back in...i just hope he isn't paired with Reilly.  I actually think Polak is a good partner for Gardiner to allow him to play the "rover" style (as per Carlyle) that he likes.

True, still, Robidas played the least amount of minutes among the Leafs D by quite a bit on Tuesday and had 2-3 brutal giveaways in that time. If he's staying in the only reason is because he's wearing an A.

Good to see Gardiner back in. I can't imagine he'll stay off the ice for very long.

I don't necessarily think he's any better than the other 4th liners, but I'd like to see Ashton get some playing time. Perhaps sit Kozun for a game or two?

At this point I assume they're just playing him to get him up to speed for missing camp.

They should just play Gardiner as a forward.  He can stickhandle better then anyone on the forth line.

I'm happy to see Gardiner back in too.  But he does need to take Carlyle's pithy advice.

I'd like to see Frattin/Ashton essentially being swapped in for Panik/Kozun every few games. One pair goes in for 2-4 games or so then the other for a few.
