Looks like Stephane Robidas will be scratched tonight in favour of Jake Gardiner.

The intrigue!

And the confirmation:

Stephane Robidas confirms that he'll be scratched tonight. Jake Gardiner returns.

Probably the right move.

It's a back-to-back. They can sell it as the team just wanting to give Robidas some rest and tomorrow they can bench the first defender to make a mistake in this game.

I don't necessarily think he's any better than the other 4th liners, but I'd like to see Ashton get some playing time. Perhaps sit Kozun for a game or two?

I'd like to see Frattin/Ashton essentially being swapped in for Panik/Kozun every few games. One pair goes in for 2-4 games or so then the other for a few.

Agreed. The only one I don't want to see benched is Holland. Though they don't get much ice time, at least he's with wingers that have a chance at producing offensively.

Yeah Holland should be a staple there. Not only is he the only centre but he's also probably the best non top-9 forward we have.

Yeah, but there's a part of me that sort of thinks that we might want to stop looking at a guy sitting for a game or two like some terrible insult or demotion. We might want to start looking at the roster a little bit more like they do in soccer where a team might shift things around depending on the match-up and just getting everyone some playing time.

The trouble being that the affected players begin to have that realization that there are players unaffected by a platooned roster.  Once two camps are evident and made up of "everyday players" and "everyone else" that will create resentment, it's only human nature.

That actually makes perfect sense.

It's a wonder they've never looked at rosters thus way in the past.

Yeah. Some sort of cycle to get them all playing time would be ideal. That, of course, also requires them to get more than 2 shifts per period to be worthwhile, though.

Except that players are experienced and mature enough to accept and understand their roles. They know that the guy that make significant contributions night in and night out are always going to be there. As long as there's a steady cycle and some sort of meritocracy involved, these guys are grown up enough to understand that the team comes first, so there shouldn't be any resentment - and, if there is, those are the types of guys you trade away. Resentment really only becomes an issue if the coaching staff is obviously playing favourites when it comes to the 3rd and 4th line guys.

At first, sure, but it's not like that divide doesn't already exist whether it's because of salary or playing time. Eventually though I think it would become like soccer where guys accept their role much in the same way that someone like Frattin probably understands why he's in the pressbox.

But that said, you know, maybe it wouldn't be the worst idea in the world to give guys a little further up the roster the occasional day off. Especially for older or injury prone players.

Well if Reimer wins tonight it will be hard to give the net back to Bernier beyond tomorrow.

I'll be pulling for James tonight, which likely means that he'll have a bad game!

Or gets injured? I'm starting to think his head is made of glass. Lets hope he holds up the entire season, because he is playing very well, and Bernier has hit a bit of a bump.

If that were true wouldn't he have been injured against the Rangers?  Wouldn't his not being injured in that play make you start thinking his head is not made of glass rather than the other way around?

I'm hoping for Reimer's success, because I have a soft spot for him. But I wouldn't be too worried about Bernier hitting a bump. He had two mediocre games; nothing to be concerned about at this point.

In the exchange between Hendrick and the Wings guy they used the word "huge" three times.  That's just
