Reimer Injury

I've been hoping since it happened that someone on Toronto will take a run at Gionta in the future.

When is the announcement that he has a concussion and will be out for a couple of months?

It won't happen.  Unless there is actual proof as to what the real injury really is, teams are keeping injuries to their players secretly as much as possible.  As Wilson responded last week, it is an upper body injury and that is what the team will say until Reimer returns to action.  I am convinced it is a concussion, and most Leaf fans that I know feel the same way, but we will never hear that from the organization.

Your security clearance is not high enough at the mother ship MLSE so you will never get that announcement. But then again, none of us will.

Reimer wasn't that great when he WAS here.

The fact is that Burke took gamble when he decided to go with 2 young goalies.  A reasonable one IMO.  This team, even if it does make the playoffs, is very likely to get bounced out early.  There is no real point in investing in some veteran when this year should be about letting Reimer and Gustavsson play.

If it ends up costing Wilson his job -- so be it.

The team's record with Reimer is better though, so I'd have to see him and the team go into a prolonged funk to really say whether or not he'd have better results lately.

Oh I'm convinced it is too, and if that's the case, say it. Then go start looking for another goaltender.

What is the latest on Reimer?

First it was day to day and skating, then he was shutdown a bit, then he skated again and last I heard he suffered a 'set back' or 'plateaud' whatever word they used.  I know he wasn't practising late last week, any timeline before he gets on the ice again>?

I can't imagine it's anything good.  He's been away from game action for over 2 weeks now, I would think they'd need to send him for a conditioning stint to the Marlies before he would be ready to return to the Leafs, and that hasn't happened yet so...

Wiki: The consequences of whiplash range from mild pain for a few days (which is the case for most people),[21] to severe disability caused by restricted head movement or of the cervical spine, sometimes with persistent pain.

Clearly he's beyond what the threshhold is for what the case is for most people or for a mild case. Not encouraging.

I was really hoping they were keeping him out of games and off the ice for precautionary measures, which could still be the case, I guess. Altough thats looking more and more unlikely. The question i have is this. If they are unsure about the degree of his injury, why has he not been placed on the IR? He was not on the ice again for today's practise, which tells me it has to be more than a cautionary thing, as the need for his return has never been greater than it is right now.

He's been on the IR for almost two weeks now.

lol

Another shaky outing by one of the goalies and I think Burke has no option but to sign someone.  Even when Reimer gets back (whenever that is), they need a guy they can depend on for backup duties.  A lot of these vets in their mid 30s are cheap too.

My bad. I didn't know he was on the IR.

RedLeaf ruined by the GreenLeaf?
